Mitch ran v. Nagin last time, and the choice came down to corruption v. incompetence, so at last it seems corruption is more popular. Both are pretty dominant in that city, unfortunately.

The elites only complain when it’s the Bush Family.
Kennedy’s, Clinton’s, Landrieu’s, Carnahan’s are exempt.
A resident told me once that the whole state is the fiefdom of a few families and nowhere more so than NOLA.
They are the children of Papa Landreau who started HUD under Carter. IIRC 90% of the houses in the worse hit area were HUD rentals,owned by three corporation...Picayune newspaper was running very enlightening editorials before and shortly after Katrina to expose the corruption of HUD housing in the city.
Oh and, Their Aunt Phyllis Landreau was president of the NOLA school board (June 5th meeting)that had decided that the school buses could not be used by the public before Katrina hit. Blame it on Nagen instead of Aunt Phyllis.
