The oil companies had leased oil-rich land in Alaska for *DECADES* but refused to drill (federal kickbacks, etc), giving the people of Alaska nothing back. When she became governor, Sarah told them drill, compensate the people, or don’t let the door hit where the Good Lord split you on the way out.
The oil companies fought her but finally began to drill, opening up new jobs, and compensating the people of Alaska.
