February 6, 2010 Tea Party Turns Nasty: ‘It’s Our Country – Let’s Take It Back’

Sarah Palin is due to address the Tea Party Convention in Nashville tonight

Tim Reid in Nashville

They will proudly boast of how they have galvanised ordinary Americans against runaway government spending, but a dark underbelly of xenophobia has been exposed at the first national gathering of the Tea Party movement.

Here in the vast Gaylord resort in Nashville, where 600 members of the conservative grassroots phenomenon that exploded in revolt against President Obama’s economic policies have gathered, it would be advisable not to wear a T-shirt declaring “I am an illegal immigrant”.

The anti-Government, anti-Establishment movement, which has splintered in the past week with many boycotting this gathering, has billed itself as a revolution born of the widespread disgust at Washington and the way that the nation’s politicians are bankrupting America’s future.

With its raucous protests it has undeniably become a political force that threatens to hand Democrats a disastrous midterm election night in November. Voter anger against spending and debt, of which the Tea Partiers are in the vanguard, played a significant role in the recent loss of the late Edward Kennedy’s Senate seat and could conceivably lead to Democrats losing the House and Senate.

Yet the speech that opened the Nashville event yesterday, an address greeted with whoops and cheers from the mainly white audience, reflects a movement that also appears to have a less attractive side to it.

The London Times should try being a little more patient with their “xenophobic” cousins. We in the U.S. just want to hang on to our English language long enough to see how Sharia Law works out in the U.K.

If that picture was accurate, they must be bad shooters because there are too many Redcoats standing.

The 18th Century Brits also snarkled down their noses at their cousin rebel founders of America who crafted the Declaration of Independence and fought the tyrannical British rule..and won! That same spirit lives today within the Tea Party movement.

The LT people are so funny. Do they also imagine the Tea Party movement will serve to organize our 20 million unemployed young men into a peoples' army?

Just thinking if that were to happen we could help out the UK people by sending over a couple of million guys to force modern firearms into the hands of the citizenry.

Make 'em more like us.

“cheers from the mainly white audience...”

and

” ...a revolution born of the widespread disgust at Washington and the way that the nation’s politicians are bankrupting America’s future”

Geez. Isn’t that a mouthful of insult to minorities. They don’t care because, why? They benefit from it big government?

People who write these articles are real morons.

“Xenophobia” is the new “Fascism”—the line you slap on whoever you don’t like in order to end all discussion.

There are places on London, England where the worthies of the Times would not care to live. Polished in their excuses of course.

Yesterday the CBC (Canadian telivision monolith) had the usual crisp voiced female putting on another crisp voiced female, who used this phrase.

Ultra Right Conservative

To describe the Tea Party organization. Next up, playing a clip of Tom Tancredo regarding the absence of english speaking voters who put Barack in Office. I chuckled as I remember the starry eyed groupie mentality of some of the CBC women staff during the presidential election. For Barack of course.

Meanwhile in Toronto, the problem of certain offspring of immigrant groups continue. Death of a student right in a high school.

Ah well, xenophobia is a hate crime - well almost. The rich mix of diversity of course. Outweighing the problems of gangs and shootings.

...I happen to believe that anglo-european/judeo christian values and culture made this country great...

I'm with you. What makes America great is that it is America. It is not some third world Country in Africa, Europe, Asia, etc. If you really want the culture and experience of living in one of those places - GO THERE! Don't try to bring those failures here.

Britain remains a launching pad for jihad. (Nigerian Nobel Prize laureate Wole Soyinka prefers the term “cesspit” to describe London’s function as an Islamist breeding ground.)
http://tinyurl.com/ygxeaxw
Just in case the Brits hadn’t figured that out, the usual anonymous U.S. State Department official was happy to do it for them. Last month, an official told the Daily Telegraph that their country “has the greatest concentration of active al Qaeda supporters [in the West],” posing a threat to Britain and “the rest of the world.” The same article cited a fresh and ominous finding from the director of MI5. He estimated his service was aware of some 2,000 “radicalized Muslims” who might be involved in terrorist plots. That figure, of course, doesn’t include the population of plotters who have escaped MI5 scrutiny, like Abdulmutallab. As if to underline the threat, on Jan. 12, the British government banned two of the country’s most notorious Islamist organizations, Islam4UK and Al Muhajiroun, under a 2000 anti-terrorism law.

So why is this particular front in the war on terrorism proving such a challenge? Haras Rafiq, a British Muslim who founded a think tank to combat Islamic extremism, worries that a big share of the blame goes to his own government. For decades, he says, Britain tolerated plotting by domestic Islamic radicals as long as they targeted other countries, often ones in the Middle East. “We gave them freedom to preach violence and extremism — [as long as] they were preaching it abroad and not in the U.K. They used that freedom to take over community organizations, mosques, TV stations,”..........
Londonistan
Forget about Yemen. The real terrorist threat exposed by the underwear bomber is in Merry Olde England.

There was another Tea Party in 1773, and the Brits did not understand us then, and they do not understand us now. The colonist did not want a king then, and we do not want one now. We certainly do not want a self appointed messiah to rule over us. Down with tyranny! Up with liberty!

...I happen to believe that anglo-european/judeo christian values and culture made this country great...if that makes me a xenophobe, I don’t care.

I too believe it. Those who immigrate here say it with their feet. What non Anglo-European/Judeo Christian country are people risking death to get to?

“Make ‘em more like us.”

That can’t be done because they are subjects and we are citizens. How one sees ones self is determinative.

Though Sarah is being paid how much money to adress this “Tea Party” crowd? I’ve been to only one Tea Party, but it was nothing like that.
