NASHVILLE The organizers of the National Tea Party Convention on Friday unveiled plans for a July conference and a political group that they ambitiously predict will raise $10 million to help conservative candidates around the country dedicated to the small-government ideals of the tea party movement.
The group, Ensuring Liberty Corp., is a nonprofit that will do direct marketing and organizing and will eventually be accompanied by a political action committee arm of the same name that will contribute directly to candidates.
Its groups president, Mark Skoda, presented it, during a news conference jam-packed with national and international press, as the next step in the grass-roots tea party movement.
The idea is essentially to act as ferocious as we are about our government being fiscally responsible as we will about our political process, said Skoda, a 55-year-old technology consultant from Memphis who helped organize the convention.
Reminding reporters that this is a part-time movement, we all have day jobs, Skoda said his group will allow people from around the country, perhaps in districts that are not competitive, to be able to participate their skills, to contribute their time, figure out whats going on in other locations and ultimately contribute money to be used to fund numerous races across the country.
Ensuring Liberty enters a crowded field of political groups seeking to channel the energy behind the tea party movement into fundraising. .. And, in the past few months, several existing political action committees have positioned themselves to raise money from newly engaged tea party activists, while a handful of fresh efforts have recently launched.
The common goal is to transform the tea party movement into something of a conservative answer to the liberal small-dollar powerhouse MoveOn.org; ..

How many Tea Party groups are there? Is Ensuring Liberty Corp. legit?
I hope they bring the constitution up often
To me, this is not the REAL Tea Party movement. As Nancy would say, it is astroturf, not grass roots. I am involved in a local Tea Party group and we don’t let the Republican party or anyone else take credit for it or overtake it.

Something special is happening with the Tea Party Movement of today. Of course people will try to gain control of it because it is a very powerful source of energy. But the concern that it is not controlled and therefore doomed is unfounded. It needs not be nor should it be confined ... to a leader, to an organization or to a specific plan. Such activity would nullify the greatness of what it has become to date and could grow to in the future. One neednt worry ... one only need to join the energy, shun people who attempt its control and allow plans to be spur of the moment. With a leader, there is a target, with an organization, a counter-organization, with a plan, a thwarting of the plan. But as pure ENERGY ... nothing can stop it. Think of it is energy ... join it, and be a part of this historical change-making effort.
With no leader or formal organization, those who believe in and practice central planning have no idea of how to defeat us. We are a moving target that they can'tr get their minds around.
Accept NO leader.......we don't need one
Let NO ONE define us....we know who we are and what we are about.
Who is Mark Skoda? The man who plans on controlling millions of dollars.
And if you can't see the problem with concentrating power in the federal bureaucracy, then see you eye doctor.
I very much favor people making their own decision who to give to rather than give that to others. We need to stay awake and not depend on others to make our choices for us -- Look where that has gotten us now. Local PACs can be formed and dissolved for one election cycle. And anyone with some media skills can turn out what I think are the most effective ads, radio ads, raise the money and put them up on local stations.
Truth, honor of your word should guide the tea party people, not coagulation in puddles. Just my 2 cents. After the 1994 election success, Perot fail and now the tea party I have grown so scars.
I hope the group also targets voter fraud; investigating, exposing, and prosecuting it.
Google Ensuring Liberty Corp., they don’t exsist.
Some scammer is trying to cash in on the Tea Party Movement. Nice of Politico to report it with no attribution whatsoever.
And who is the leader, no one knows and that is the beauty, since then there is no target for the libturds to take down. And you know they dearly want to do just that. Just look what happened in Nashville just today.
The Apache Indians held off the Spaniards for hundreds of years with their system of unrelated tribes based on the Nant'an, their spiritual leader. I believe this fellow summarized the book "The Starfish and the Spider - The unstoppable power of leaderless organizations" -- A book about large organizations and how leaderless, 'wisdom of the crowd' government works best.
Resist the tug to become "an organization", stay a movement.
Is this the spirit that drove our founders, could be.
See post 12, what do you think?
I have to think about this one for a while. On the one hand, I don’t like the idea of the Tea Party Movement becoming “corrupted,” on the other hand, the Tea Party Movement, per se, has done more in one year to popularize the message of liberty and Constitutional ideals than the Libertarian Party has done in 40 years.
I think a lot of people are being too quick to criticize a Movement that is so young. Like every other populist movement in history, they are going to make tactical and strategic errors, piss people off, become too big for their breeches, take too much for granted, become involved in internal Machiavellian power struggles, and so forth.
That having been said, I admire what they doing and hope they keep on doing it. They are a force to be reckoned with in American politics and a breath of fresh air. Hopefully, the cooler, rational heads in the movement will prevail and the losers will go back to their day jobs.

Not sure for sure and No idea. Depends on what you mean by the word ‘Legit’ ,, legal? probably. ;-)
I posted it off of Politico.com fwiw. :-)
Asymmetrical warfare.
I hope the group also targets voter fraud; investigating, exposing, and prosecuting it.

You see the size of those darn minicams these days... Tiny.
I hope we are witnessing an escalation of the use of various techniques, all legal of course, to nail the ‘varmints’, wherever they may be.
Doesn’t Politico like to jump right in to report in the negative? I think I’ll wait for additional and more detailed reports from our reliable news sources. Carl Cameron reports from the Convention site and he said that Skoda’s idea was offered, but up to individuals to accept or reject and he noted that Skoda is out of Memphis, so I’m certain this is the same guy.
This is NOT the real tea party...and now this group has a corporation involved, and the dems will run with that; they’ve already been saying that the tea party was not grass roots, but backed by “big corporations”...and this bunch is just going to lend credence to that.
