Unfortunately, the Unemployment Number Drop is Merely an Illusion
Rush Limbaugh ^ | 2-5-2010 | Rush Limbaugh

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: State-Controlled Media can only talk about how great is the unemployment rate. "Lower than expected." Let's go to the audiotape.

VARNEY: The unemployment rate falling to 9.7%. That is an improvement from the previous month. It's better than expected.

TODD: The unemployment rate surprisingly dropped below 10% to 9.7%. That's the good news.

LEE: ...falling to 9.7%, and that's an improvement from last month and better than expected.

JOHNSON: That headline number is absolutely huge. You can't underestimate that.

ELAM: We haven't seen unemployment that low since last summer.

RUSH: Yeah, except the problem is it's not accurate. They did include the revised number of unemployed people up to eight million instead of seven, and they did include the first wave of Census Bureau hires -- and they're going to be hiring these workers all through June and they're gonna hire a million of them. So you're going to see the unemployment rate drop because of that, but keep in mind those Census jobs are temporary. They're going to lose their jobs when the Census work is over.

Complete bs and the average person knows it so let them go shout it on the mountain.

20,000 jobs were lost and more of the working folks were in the temp category.

The rate went down because people quit looking for a job that does not exist.

Dont forget about the large number of people under-employed or taken jobs that are below their qualifications/education.

People coming out of college today as bartenders in order to make ends meet are not counted in the Labor department stats because they are technically “employed.”

A 50 year old acquaintence of mine lost his long time sales/executive job about a year ago in a layoff. He went for months looking for work and finally found a job - working the floor at Lowes. His young adult daughter thought it was funny when she said, “I’m a checker at Safeway and I make more than dad”.

It’s not funny.

The rate went down because people quit looking for a job that does not exist.

The "rate" went down because it's drawn from a different report that uses a different methodology. At best all BLS data is suspect because of political influences. On their best day, they're estimates.

"20,000 fewer employed Americans in January"

That's like going to a National Hockey League game and saying, your all fired.

No miracle at all. Less employed in 50 states, but don't you forget that Obama manages 57 states (plus one or 2 he is yet to visit). They hire like crazy in those extra 7 (or 9) states.

Very good post.

Obama educates those who may not know how many states there are in the union:
