I grew up in Virginia, lived 15 years in Georgia, and now live in Wisconsin. Snow like this is a big story because it's so unusual. Here in Wisconsin, 12 inches, big whoop. In Georgia or Virginia? Story of the year -- precisely because it's unusual and the localities are utterly unprepared for it.
I lived in Ohio for 29 years. In that entire time, only once was more than 20” on the ground.
Where I live now, if tonight holds true, this will be the second time in a winter I’ve seen it.
It seems that the weather systems that do hit here mean that although total snowfall is MUCH lower here, the potential for huge storms over 15” or so is MUCH higher than in Ohio, outside the snow belt.
