BOSTON Gov. Deval Patrick canceled a speech in Plymouth on Thursday after learning that union members, mostly off-duty police officers, were preparing to greet him with a picket line.
About 250 people from the South Shore and elsewhere in the state were waiting outside the Radisson Conference Center, said Jim Barry, spokesman for the Boston Police Patrolmens Association.
Patrick was set to speak at an annual AFL-CIO conference. Before his arrival, the labor groups executive committee voted to join the police officers outside, Barry said, so Patrick would have encountered not just a picket line, but also an empty hall.

I’m looking forward to the defeat of two “Patrick”s this fall:
Deval in MA and Kennedy in RI
Unions. Ugh....
Yep - I can’t wait to see the political map here in NE come November!
Unions don’t always toe the Dem line, even in MA: the Cambridge Police Officers Assoc. endorsed Scott Brown.
This despite Martha Coakley’s husband being a former
Cambridge cop. (No doubt the Coakleys must feel that
these officers acted...stupidly, as Obama would put it)
Police unions in the past have also endorsed the likes of
George H.W. Bush—over hometown gov Mike Dukakis...
Bow down to the union Patrick. Rub that once proud Irish Catholic name in the muck of subservience.
Patrick promised to hire many more police officers and to give property tax relief.
OK, where is it?
Ugh perhaps but the fact they ran from Coakley was helpful to Brown and hurt Obama’s agenda.
I do however support Patrick on the civilian construction flaggers (instead of using cops)and cutting the Quinn Bill (should be axed 100%).
True Hojczyk, they need to be replaced on construction details - hey call it a jobs program.
That said I’m glad Patrick is losing support from all sides, he’s toast.
Any insight on prospective GOP candidates?
Hi Ken - here’s the latest thread on the subject:

It will be interesting to say the least!
TW..kudos on your home page..great pics..
Ken - I’m thinking both Patricks are going down - BIG, and can’t stand Crist so that would be icing on the cake!
I’m just hope people stay ANGRY until November.
As for the profile page - I try to keep it up as much as possible, sometimes one’s message doesn’t come out in discussions in threads or get distorted, can’t say that about a profile page imo.
Here’s a slideshow of some of my photos of what I call the “The Grand Awakening” here in NE since Sarah Palin’s visit in Oct of 2008, can’t wait to add some more photos of here in the Spring when she returns!
