Meg Whitman TV ad fudges on how long she’s lived in state
LA Times ^ | 2/5/10 | Shane Goldmacher

In Meg Whitman’s first TV commercial, set to begin airing statewide on Friday, the Republican candidate for governor tells viewers that “the state is in the worst shape that I’ve seen in the 30 years that I have lived in California.”

But although the former EBay chief first moved to California nearly 30 years ago, in 1981, she has not lived in the state continuously since then. For a period during the 1990s, after she left the Walt Disney Co., Whitman moved to Massachusetts with her husband, a brain surgeon who worked at Massachusetts General Hospital.

News reports have said she moved in 1992. The Whitman campaign declined to specify when she moved out of state. She returned in March 1998, taking the helm of EBay.

What a scandal. She might have to insert the word "nearly" into an ad.

Good to know the LA Times has fact checkers. Maybe they could dissect the utterances of a certain President who gives over 400 speeches and 150 interviews per year.

Talk about trying to find fault with minutia. This LA Times writer has entirely too much time on his hands.

I'm no fan of RINO's like Meg Whitman and never have been. But I think quibbling over how long someone has been a resident of the state (unless they are clearly ineligible) is stupid.

Babs Boxer is a New York-born carpetbagger herself. Hillary Clinton had far less time in New York than Whitman has in California.

And considering that the votes U.S. Senators make affects the whole country and not just their states, I'm not sure it is even a particularly relevant issue.

I wouldn’t vote for her simply because of how horrible the Ebay/Paypal relationship works.

I can't stand her, but this is lame, You live somewhere for 30 years, you don't always mention a six year gap for work or military service, especially when you returned 12 years ago.

He’s not trashing Whitman per se. He is questioning why CA is always electing RINO and/or liberals.

If her name was Hillary, she would say : “Actually, I have always been a Padres fan, even though I was for the Red Sox”.

Geeesh.. Is it a hate crime to post from the LA Times? I post as I will.

Is freedom of expression illegal too?

If you want to embrace the current idiocy and offerings at the highest levels of the moderate CA GoP and GoP as well, be my guest.

You can just skip my threads if you don’t like it. How’s that? Fair enough?

Thanks for speaking up but some here are so rabid, they fail to see whose legs they are gnawing at.

Any criticism of the parties that put this kind of ‘poopulism’ up for election deserves to be called out and those who continue to support those that are behind the scenes or harangue me can kiss my patootie.
