Yes, the degree of snottiness of NYrs is...well, the joke’s on them.

Manhattanites refer to people living in the outer boroughs as “the bridge and tunnel crowd”.

Clearly, one is either part of “The In Crowd” or you are an outsider, deserving of their sneering, intolerant, condescending contempt.

I am a former NY'er and would add that the same condescension NY'ers feel is present in all cities.

I live in the country now and when my brother and family arrive from Atlanta, I witness the same attitude.

I think it is the intensity of the rat race that causes that kind of thinking. I also think the insularity of city living (hanging around only with folks like you...from work or the subdivision/neighborhood) that encourages that kind of closed mindedness.
