L.A. County red-light violation fines have jumped 65% to $446, Times review finds

Redlights In less than eight years, fines for red-light traffic violations in Los Angeles County have jumped nearly 65% from an average of $271 to $446.
With traffic school fees, the total now exceeds $500. Ever-vigilant photo enforcement programs run by nearly 30 agencies across the county have added a new degree of efficiency to catching violators and capturing revenue to fund a variety of government programs.
In November alone, Los Angeles Countys Superior Court system processed payments on an estimated 13,000 red-light camera tickets. And local agencies with camera systems generated nearly $1.6 million in revenue, with an even larger portion of the red-light camera fines going to a combination of state and judicial programs, according to the estimates obtained by The Times.

The cap is off on how high traffic tickets can go, $1,000 for passing a school bus. $10,000 for hitting a construction worker (and that does not absolve you of litigation awards to the victim).
Bush's fault?
When traffic laws are strictly enforced, revenues go up.
But it’s all about safety for THE CHILDREN, right?
How do I attach the BS meter here .....
When fines are raised, city budgets are met.
Oh, that red light.
Where Red-Light camera’s go up....accidents increase.
Looks like we’re headed toward government’s solution to a budget crisis is to make everything illegal and make the fine for a violation be equal to all of a violators assets.
Yes, that too. But they don’t care who gets hurt as long as they get money.
$138 here. I recently got a speeding ticket and thought of something: do law enforcement types see traffic citations primarily as a form of revenue or as a way to keep the roads safe. I know they balance the two but I was wondering which way they leaned?
I know. We use them here too and they are STRICTLY a revenue source, although the city fathers will tell you different with a straight face. Which reminds me, I need to get some of that polarizing spray-on stuff for my license plates.
And when fines go up too, the revenues go up even faster. It used to be about safety. Now it is about soaking drivers to fund bureaucrats
So much for not raising taxes to the middle class...
I drive in L.A./Hollywood. MOST of the drivers here deserve a ticket. Unfortunately, I got a ticket for....jaywalking.
Jaywalking..in an illegal alien infested part of DT L.A. Until now, I am shaking my head in the irony.
And yet NOT ONE of these tickets is sent to the driver who committed the offense. The tickets are sent to the owner of the vehicle.
they don’t care who pays. All they care about is collecting money.
Classic lib philosophy. Just turn the other cheek
Bend over for Arnold and this host of thugs in the CA Assembly. Jerks one and all, IMO.
