While speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast, President Obama mispronounced the word "Corpsman" as "corpse-man."

I hate this excuse

It's not an excuse. It's a simple fact. The word is pronounced "nukular" by intelligent, educated people in large swaths of the country.

Obama not only pronounced the “p”, he pronounced the “s” as well. I just made him sound very unsophisticated, unread, and flat out uneducated. The man is an embarrassment to the office of the president, mainly because he is touted as such a great orator and the world has such high expectations. He is proving himself a hollow shell, not much more than a child’s toy. Pull the string and he talks, but he doesn’t hear.

I also hear Obama joke ( semi-joke) about his citizenship. Rush even used the “citizenship” word in introducing the clip.

Obama thinks that if he himself jokes about it, then surely folks will dismiss it. I wish those folks at the prayer breakfast had not joined in the laughter and had met his statement with stone silence.

In the liberal media, there's been a trend in the last couple weeks to call out people who are "birthers" to try to make them sound like wild-eyed lunatic conspiracy theorists. Kos ran a survey that found that x% of Republicans 'actually believe' that Obama is a socialist and that y% 'actually believe' that Obama was not born in the US.

The Arizona Republic has been hammering JD Hayworth for questioning Obama's citizenship.

Anyway, Obama has taken to ridiculing people for asking questions about his citizenship. IMO, it's a risky strategy, because the simple fact is that Obama has not produced a long-form birth certificate, and nobody can say which hospital he was born in, nor who the attending physician was.

Personally I'm reminded of Gary Hart daring the press to catch him having an affair, when he actually was having an affair. "Go ahead. Follow me around. You'll be bored."

Unless I missed it as a hip way to say it, he does a weird thing with "OBGyn" too. Like he doesn't know its an abbreviation and pronounces it as a word, "Obbie-gynie".

"Michelle's friend is an obbie-gynie". It took me a minute to figure out what he was saying.

One of my peeves is people who can’t tell rigtheous indignation from simple disbelief that many people can’t adhere to an already agreed-upon method of communication.

Language is how creatures communicate. If everyone were to mispronounce everything, how could any idea be communicated?

I don’t consider people intelligent or educated if they mispronounce such a simple word as ‘nuclear’.

This is not the first time Obama said CORPSE-MAN in a speech!!

I believe it was last spring, though it could have been earlier. It caught my ear because I'm a veteran Army medical corpsman from way back (1971-1973), 3rd ID), and was making jokes the next day that I missed my calling, I should have gone into the undertaker business. IIRC, Obama actually said it TWICE before!

Somebody with better research skills than mine should go hunting for this. I am totally serious!! Rush would have lotsa fun with it.

You're completely wrong. Bush's promunciation of "nuclear" (which was shared by Carter among others) is simply a mispronunciation of a word. He still presumably knows what the word means.

But Obama's pronuncaition of "corpsman" as "corpse man" indicates that he has no idea what a corpsman is ; it goes to the narrowness of his education.
