Obama Suggests Republicans Could Have A Role In Health-Care Bill
By Shailagh Murray and Paul Kane February 4, 2010
President Obama urged congressional Democrats on Wednesday "to finish the job on health care," but amid tentative signs of bipartisan outreach on Capitol Hill, he suggested that Republicans could be enlisted to play at least some role in negotiating a final bill.
For two weeks, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) have struggled for a way to salvage health legislation that had appeared on the verge of final passage until a Massachusetts special election deprived Democrats of their filibuster-proof Senate majority.
Reid and Pelosi have yet to agree on a plan, and many Democrats are irritated that the protracted haggling over health care is overshadowing progress on other legislation, including an $81 billion job-creation bill that Senate leaders plan to unveil Thursday. The dispute has created tension between Democrats in the House and in the Senate and has revealed increasing frustration within the party toward Obama, who pushed Congress to produce a series of monumental bills last year but has yet to sign a single one into law.
In the coming days, Reid and Pelosi are expected to confer with the president to determine whether Democrats can pass the existing health-care bill or will be forced to start anew.
Speaking to Senate Democrats at their retreat Wednesday morning, Obama brushed aside calls from party moderates to shelve health-care reform at least until after the November midterm elections.
"We've got to finish the job, even though it's hard," Obama told the senators. But Democrats also took note when Obama described a process for completing the bill that would take place "in an open way, in a transparent way, in a spirit that says to....

Obama is too stupid to realize that “health care reform” is just something we let Democrats play with to keep them busy so they don’t screw anything else up.
There’s not going to be any “health care reform”. There never was going to be any “health care reform”. But it sure did screw the RATS.
ROFL.
A pig has a role in bacon
Thank you for allowing us to have a role in the debate. Considering that you won, it is very nice and gracious of you to let us get involved in your reform.
The GOP role is to kill it.
Obama means he would like to get one liberal republican to help ram it through. He has no intention of letting all the republicans help on the bill.
Obama is desparate to get something passed at this point.
The treasonous dirty secret has been out for some time. This “final solution for America” never was about anyone’s health care; it’s about destroying this country and enslaving the people.
Sheesh! What jerks! I'd tell Obama to go pound sand, or take the "Cheney preseciption."
Don’t touch that 0bamanation of a bill with a ten-foot pole, Republicans...and that includes YOU, “reach across the aisle” McCain. Let the Dems own it all by themselves.
The Congress? What's that?
Psst.. it's HUAC (House of UnAmerican Activity Committees). Tell the conservative Republicans to sit it out until we can restore Congress.
(And a Thank you! to another Freeper for this better name for today's "Congress." IMO.)
No! No! No!
Let the Dems be hosted on their own petard!
No Republicans, let the dems own it ALL!
YEAH RIGHT OBAMA!
Enjoy your life after November!
YEAH RIGHT OBAMA!
Enjoy your life after November!
Good grief, you'd think his life depends on passing this crappy health care bill.
Obama: Please, please, pretty please let me be known for some big bill.
GOP: A bill with your name on it?
Obama: Yes, please, please...
GOP: You’re not a commie are you?
Obama: Oh no. I’m for you guys. Please, please let me have something.
GOP: You’re not going to destroy the USA?
Obama: NO! I want to be important, a hero, a god. Please, please let me have it.
GOP: Shall we give it to him? Like an Oscar!
Obama: I have a Peace Prize but I want an Oscar. Yes. Please, please.
GOP: Shall we give it to him guys?
Obama: Yes, yes, yes.
GOP: Lets phone Bush and Cheney to see if its OK with them.
remember “I Won” We don’t need and Republican help?
