Sometimes one has to wonder whether Charlie Crist really wants to win his primary battle against Marco Rubio for the Republican nomination to contest Floridas open Senate seat. When Rubio endorsed the conservative and mainstream national GOP position that the US Census should count only legal residents and citizens, Crist decided to differentiate himself by supporting the count of illegal immigrants as a means to get more pork from Washington:
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio has come out against including illegal immigrants in the national census even though doing so could significantly reduce Floridas political power and share of federal funding.
But, later, a spokesman for Rubios Senate campaign said that Rubio did not support a congressional reapportionment process that counts illegal immigrant populations when allocating seats. Alex Burgos said Rubios position stems from a concern about rightful representation in Congress and ensuring that every voter has an equal voice.
Crist went to North Miami on Tuesday to urge everyone to participate in the census.
The people of Florida represent a rich legacy of diverse cultures, backgrounds and experiences, and want to be represented accordingly, Crist said. Florida families should participate in the 2010 census to ensure our state receives the funding necessary to meet the needs of our citizens.

well hopefully this is the final straw, Rubio wins convincingly and then hopefully trounces the Dem
Can someone tell me when the primary is? I googled it...but just came up w/ sites regarding the presidential primary in 08.
Also, anyone know when the AZ primary is? How long does JD have to get in and campaign against McCain?
Sorry, that’s your reading, not the law. Just being physically present is not a reason for counting, otherwise they would count diplomats, foreign military, temporary workers and foreign corporate executives.
Illegal aliens don’t even fall into those categories. The only reason anyone even contemplates these aliens being part of the count is to gain political advantage and payoffs because federal grants are based on population.
It is understandable why Democrats want to count these people - they are welfare recipients who will be beholding to the Democrat Party. What is unforgivable is Republicans who also want to violate the law in hope of some benefit that will never come their way. And George Bush, Rove, McCain, and Graham are chief culprits in this.
We should change what it says, because what it say is...
Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding the whole number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of Ten years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.
“Just being physically present is not a reason for counting, otherwise they would count diplomats, foreign military, temporary workers and foreign corporate executives.”
Diplomats, foreign military would not be counted as they are not under the jurisdiction of the United States.
However, the others will be counted as they have been previously.
“Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding the whole number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.”
I know it is difficult to keep up with the news, but much of that was amended around 142 years ago.
So what? Is Nebraska going to sue FL if FL counts all the people living in FL? Christ maybe a fool but he is politically playing this one correctly.
Careful, good sir; the Constitution directs us to count everyone, even foreign tourists.
LOL very true. The sad thing is the census has gone from apportioning representatives to doling out government goodies.
Diplomats might be excluded since their embassies are considered to be little patches of their home countries outside the boundaries of the US. Everyone else, citizen, foreigner, illegal immigrant, etc., gets counted.
I can’t believe the people of FL who rejected Crist for Bob Graham would also reject him for the Senate nomination this year. Once they get stuck on a failed politician, FL voters are not otherwise easily persuaded.
You're not even good enough for Star Kist!
Go Marco!
How much more behind in the polls will this put you, Charlie???
Keep talking, Marco and the conservative movement thank you.
Would this include foreign tourists vacationing in the United States?
John McCain endorsed him.
AZ primary is August 31.
“Careful, good sir; the Constitution directs us to count everyone, even foreign tourists.”
I differ with that interpretation.
The framers knew who they wished to consider during the census count. It was for the basis of apportionment for the House of Representatives.
Since non-citizens do not have a vote(as neither Indians or slaves back then), it is clear they did not center their “counting” on any and all bodies who happened to be present.
I distinctly consider that this is the correct one.
Americans, nothing else.
And by the way, he is a boob.
Good idea.
Count ‘em, get their names & addresses, then use that information to fine them, throw their asses in jail, or send them back to where they came from.
Twinkle-toes won't have to switch to anything after the August primary. He'll be done. Stick-a-fork-in-him type done.
It'll be high-fiving for us.
