>> Absolutely NOT true. Considering it blew up twice in the last 2 millions years and the humans are still around is pretty telling evidence we’ll survive it.
CIVILIZATION on the other hand .... yeah you have a point.<<
You make a really good point. As Heinlein said, we are a tough species and adaptable. But when food disappears for good and potable water is unavailable, it will be small and lucky cadre of Homo Sapiens who muddle through to create the post-Yellowstone population.
For all intents and purposes, the Caldera blowing ends humanity AS WE KNOW IT. And there won’t be cute little orphans “doin’ the tell” to keep even a modicum of knowledge alive.
Currently Yellowstone is at the normal green level, which means activity in the area is not above background levels.

Don’t forget the marshmallows!
>>Nope; It is the End of Fly-over Country {east of the Rockies and West of the Appalachians}.<<
Everything I have read says it is the end of humanity. The Caldera blowing is cataclysmic: The sun will, for all intents and purposes, go out (it will be blocked). It will be worse than the nuclear winter predicted for so many years. The Caldera blowing is on the order of hundreds of thousands of H bombs (or worse).
Not only will it immediately kill 1/3 of all Americans, but it will change the atmosphere. Inside of a year or so, crops will fail. The ash from the clouds will poison fresh water across the planet.
The sun will be a memory, and all we get from it will be shrouded. Inside of 10 years, 95% of all humans will die. If the 5% remaining can somehow adjust, they will revert to Cro-magnon tribalism.
This is a summary of everything I have read about what might happen. If you see a sunnier scenario (there are some), enjoy.
But I think most scientific models of the YS Caldera blowing are pretty apocalyptic.
Sure hope this isn’t what those Mayans were talkin’ about!
I figure it will all blow right when the Cubs are one strike away from winning the World Series.

In our final moments, we learn that God does, indeed, have a sense of humor ;)

FWIIW, the Mayan philosophy called for a “reset” (sort of like the last Star Trek movie) wherein understanding and knowledge will be bestowed upon humans to use to achieve the “next level” of enlightenment — and the clock start again (4014? No one knows since the Mayan texts don’t go beyond the reset point).
My wife is a lay scholar about all things prehispanic mesoamerican and has seen the texts (which are partial and “written” in Olmec and Toltec as well as Mayan hieroglyphs).
Interesting and, on reflection, a back-of-the-brain are aof potential concern.
Do you know Jesus Christ?
I seem to remember from some program on TV that Yellowstone is always having small swarms of earthquakes...nothing new..
You can live forever on somemores.......
it is the end of the human race.
Jellystone would be a big eruption, but I really do think people are laughing...... 2012......end of the human race?
