Newser) Moderate Mark Kirk has won Illinois Republican Senate primary, blowing away two conservative opponents backed by tea-party contingents. The congressman has 56% of the vote with more than 82% of precincts reportinggiving him a 37% lead over Patrick Hughes. Analysts predicted that a clear Kirk victory would take much of the steam out of the tea-party movement.
On the Democratic side, the Chicago Tribune reports, state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias looks close to clinching the nomination, setting up a fight with Kirk for the Senate seat vacated by President Obama.

I can never vote for someone who thinks its OK to suck the brains out of a baby. I don’t give a rip about “symbolic” warfare over Obama’s seat. IMHO, Obama is a hardened, committed leftist warrior. He will be OK with a leftist Republican taking his seat if it serves to 1) advance leftist ideology, and 2) neutralizes a strong reaction from the right by providing them with a superficial trinket they can brag about.
No, what we have in Illinois is 1) a giant class of unionized government workers who see their interests aligned with big government, and 2) a largely uninformed electorate with no established network for learning what individual candidates are really about. We have a long tradition of trusting party label, regardless of content. I know for a fact there are people who will be horrified to learn later on they voted for a partial birth abortion advocate. Today, as they cast their vote, they had no idea who he is or what he represents. All they saw was the R next to a somewhat familiar name. Tragic.
BTW, I predicted this outcome. Furthermore, the only means we now have at our disposal to advance conservative in time for November is to go outside the two-party system. I know many of you here at FR do not want to hear this, but its just true. There is still time before next November to educate Illinoisans as to why a vote for the R or the D amounts to the same thing, why they need to think outside the box if they really want to throw off the shackles of the Chicago Cabal. This isn’t going to be easy, but it can be done. We just need to work together instead of pulling ourselves apart with internecine and somewhat Orwellian arguments about why we conservatives have to vote for anti-conservative candidates in order to advance conservatism.
IMnsHO, the only way (and you are assuming that Kirk can beat Giannoulias) to hold Kirk’s feet to the fire is to run a candidate in the general election in November that is Conservative.
Results.
1) Conservative could draw enough support that he would out poll Kirk; and Kirk drops out. (Kirk will drop out and throw his support to Giannoullias; like Scazofavo did to Hoffman in N.Y.23)
2) Kirk sees the danger to his ambitions and makes concessions to Conservatives (like you can trust a liberal!?
to get the stalking horse Conservative out of the race.
3) Concede the election to the democrat.
Try to rebuild the Republican Party and try again in 2012
4) Admit that Illinois sucks.
Form a Conservative Party to get away from the go-along git-along RINO’s
“Analysts predicted that a clear Kirk victory would take much of the steam out of the tea-party movement. “
Horseshit.
>> What in the hell happenned here?
Funny that *you* should be asking that question.
The real Conservatives are leaving Illinois. As I sit now, 1 mile east of the border, having moved in with my In-Laws, I look back into Illinois and see the water circling the bowl, slowly making its way down the white porcelain tunnel. Real Conservatives know when the handle has been pushed. Last one out before its all flushed please close the lid.
Name your poison.. the other guy is an Obama buddy and connected to the Chicago Mob through the family bank...
I’m with you on this SR.
I will NOT vote for a guy that supports baby-killing with or without my money.
e’F Kirk the closet Jerk!
The county with a worse county jail than Harris county.
If you don’t vote for Kirk who you going to vote for, the Gorn, Khan, Dr. Soran, whoever?
He sounds like a white Barack Obama. Lovely!
Look like "gay eyes" to me.
answer: Illinois Tea Party, Conservatives, Pro-Life/Family, Pro - 2nd Amendment, Anti - amnesty, anti - gay marriage....
have to organize and run a Conservative in the General Election!
When Obama’s bitter fruit ripens in November even the dems in Illinois will not vote for giannoullias.
Kirk is anathema to our values and I am NOT ready to concede my state to an e’ffin demsocialist!
WE HAVE TO HAVE A CONSERVATIVE TO COME FORWARD AND HOLD UP OUR BANNER! What about it Pat Hughes? Dan Proft? Anybody out there that can do that?

Please be aware that there are already plans afoot to introduce a third party candidate as a genuine conservative alternative to Kirk in the fall.
I’ll write myself in.
The days of me voting for somebody that does not reflect my values is long over!
Choosing the lesser of two evils still gets you evil!
No doubt in my mind that a Conservative has to come forward and run, and the State and Nationl RNC has to be told to go to HELL!

Because in Mass, the establishment didn’t even bother to try running a candidate, so it left the field open. I’m sure they are kicking themselves now for not finding a Mark Kirk-like candidate for Brown’s seat.
And I agree with you. We don’t need this seat, and we don’t need a liberal republican going “bipartisan” on us for the next 6 years.
Even if he was the 51st republican, frankly I’d rather sell out to Leiberman and give him a committee chair in exchange for his vote on leadership, than have to give valuable committee seats to Mark Kirk.
We nearly got stuck with Obamacare in order to purge the senate of the worst of the liberal republicans. Now is not the time to start putting them back in.
