Kirk, Giannoulias win party primaries

Rep. Mark Kirk declared himself the winner of the GOP Senate primary. Alexi Giannoulias is expected to the same shortly for the Democrats.

Kirk addressed his supporters at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday. The North Shore congressman Kirk easily won the Republican primary. GOP voters nominated the five-term congressman Tuesday. With 64 percent of precincts reporting, Kirk had 58 percent.

Alexi Giannoulias, who led the polls throughout the campaign, is ahead in the Democratic primary. The closest competitor in the race, David Hoffman, called to concede to Giannoulias around 9:50 p.m. Giannoulias is expected to talk soon.

Republicans are eager to make in-roads come November, while the Democrats are hoping to elect a candidate that will help retain their majority in the Senate. Illinois is being even more closely watched after an upset win by the GOP in Massachusetts that cost Democrats the late Sen. Edward Kennedy's seat. ...

Another RINO is headed to the Seante. Giannoulias is in trouble already with all that business about his bank.

Kirk will win, but I don’t know if that is a good thing.

The “better”? I have a choice between someone who is pro-abortion or someone who is pro-abortion. There is no better.
