Rand Paul compares himself to his dad.:

“I’d say we’d be very very similar. We might present the message sometimes differently.. I think in some ways the message has to be broadened and made more appealing to the entire Republican electorate because you have to win a primary.”

Notice that the quote unearthed by "the great blogger Sultan Knish" (lol) didn't see the light of day until after the Palin endorsement.

Beyond my criticism of the "blogger", I would also add that the Rand Paul quote is a red flag.

That said, at this point I've only seen conservative positions stated by Rand Paul.

He IS a constitutional conservative but he has to present his message in a sensible way to win over mainstream Republicans because like Palin said she doesn’t agree with EVERYTHING but probably 90%. Rand’s job is to emphasise that 90% which is smart politics in a primary
