HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle is also sounding off about the president's plans for Constellation. Mayor Battle mailed a two-page letter addressed to President Barack Obama telling him to keep the Constellation program on schedule.

Mayor Battle walked into a room with confidence to speak to the media. In his hand, was a two-page letter written to the attention President Obama.

The mayor takes issue with the president's proposal to cut NASA's Constellation program.

"This is not just about Huntsville. This is about the United States of America having a space program that goes forward," said Mayor Battle.

If the president has his way, the Constellation program will not get off the ground. President Obama cut the program from from his 2011 budget.

The mayor read a portion of his nearly 800 word letter to the media. He said the letter was written for one reason.

"We are asking the president to re-look at his budget for the 2011 year, to re-look at the constellation issue, and bring it back. We invested millions of dollars in it. It's a proven technology. It's also something that will advance the United States in the years ahead," added Mayor Battle.

Mayor Battle knows he may have an uphill battle ahead of him, but knows it's worth the fight.

"We don't need to be second to anybody. We have science, we have math, we have technology, we have the ability, and we have the will to go forward with this program and take man back to the moon, and beyond. That's what the whole space program is about," added Mayor Battle.

WHNT NEWS 19 has learned the mayor's office is planning a visit to Washington, DC, alongside former congressman Bud Cramer, to fight for the Constellation program in the near future.

Senator Richard Shelby:

He issued a statement saying, "Congress can not and will not sit back and watch the reckless abandonment of sound principles, a proven track record, a steady path to success, and the destruction of our human space flight program." more by Richard Shelby - 8 hours ago - WAFF

Pork barrel NASA aka Galatic USPS. Probably infested with ACORN/SEIU paper pushers. They did good work when Von Braun ran it.

Shelby is coward. He is in tight with the NSA and knew Obama was not eligible. I bet he had the goods but he wimped out. Screw him.

The tossing away of decades of scientific progress and know how because of the DemonRAT fat pig sucking up every dollar it can suck up, will not sit well with the American public. NASA is that sacred institution that cannot be touched. The Zer0 Regime has just stepped into it and it will be a stink that will not come clean.

A clean sweep in 2010! Finish the job in 2012!

Are those facts that you state in your post or simply your seemingly uninformed opinion or perhaps sarcasm?

Your post sounds more angry than logical.
