I have a general rule of thumb that I don’t view anyone as Presidential timber who hasn’t won a statewide race, even in a small state. I think it demonstrates the ability to draw support from a wide coalition and gives someone a broader perspective than being a congressman.

During the Janice Rodgers Brown confirmation hearings Rush made the wonderful observation that the Circuit Courts are the farm system for the Supreme Court. I submit that the 50 governorships make up the farm system for the Oval Office.

In reality, you don't matter. You only get two choices, both are offered up by the power brokers, in their respective parties. You can do a write in, but why waste the effort it takes to write a name that will never be read.
