At General Motors, they used to call their surging competitor "Mr. T," as if intimidated by a muscular rival who seemed able to seize market share at will. But Toyota suddenly looks pretty meek, thanks to a mystifying safety problem that has led to a huge recall, an unprecedented production shutdown, and an ugly dent in a once sterling reputation.
This corporate nightmare has mushroomed since last fall, when Toyota recalled about 4 million vehicles because of floor mats with a propensity to slip down into the driver's side foot well, potentially interfering with the pedals and causing sudden acceleration. Now Toyota has recalled an additional 2.3 million vehicles for a problem that sounds similar, but the company says it's different: faulty gas pedals that can stick if they become worn, causing--once again--sudden acceleration.

The sticky foot peddles is not the story I am hearing. The cause of the acceleration problem is the fly-by-wire electronic system that controls the injecter system. There is some engeneering problem with that system that they cannot talk about because of legal mumbo jumbo.
It more a matter of size than time.
If you have more than 200,000 employees at a company, the average intelligence of your employees is probably only slightly above the average intelligence of the total population.
Folks that are counting Toyota out are making a massive miscalculation. Toyota will bounce back and be cooking at full speed in just a few months at best. GM and Chrysler is whom you sould be worrying about. Why? Their incompetent managements, their corrupt union (UAW), POTUS “The Moron” Obama (never managed anything in his entire life) and, the death seeking hand of the United States government. Go Ford (USA), go Toyota, go Volkswagon, go Honda, go Nissan, These stalwarts are not going anywhere, but are remaining in the auto business leading the industry.
Now you know why GM is on its way to failure and collapse!!! Only some stupid management and union goons, coupled with a dose failed Obama input could come up with this crass option. GM should be ashamed. Sorry, they are just like Obama and....he has no shame or remorse whasoever!!!
Since GM now stands for Government Motors ya gotta wonder.

Every car on the market has brakes capable of winning against the engines. Even Obamamobiles.
Those Toyotas may have had some throttle control problems, but all could be stopped by - wait for it - putting on the brake.
Remember the Audi “problem” and the herdlike CBS and associated engineering morons trying to make something of it.
Nope, I don’t own Toyotas, but will stand behind the claim that Toyotas are far, far ahead of any ObamaGMysler junkpile that’s out there.
I don’t believe the accelerator pedal story. If it were true then we’d be seeing pictures of that assembly with an explanation of how it could stick.
Seems likely that Toyota doesn’t know what the problem is, or even if there actually is a problem. A former Toyota employee called Rush and said he though the recall was purely to take some kind of action that would head off more severe measures the government might take.
I heard the same thing this morning on an automotive radio call in show on WCBM 680 out of Baltimore. Expect more fly-by-wire problems, he said Ford made one suspected part in Dearborn and sold it to Toyota. This story isn’t over.
Dave Serio has his own shop a two hour show with two more on the internet. He’s pretty good.
Or better yet, turning off the ignition while applying the brakes.
That said, either takes time, and depending on the situation, you might not have enough before you hit something, or otherwise get out of control.
With the UAW having such a huge stake in GM and Chrysler, they would surely attempt to sabotage their competition in any way possible.

For 60 Minutes to do an un-intended acceleration story on Toyota this time like they did to Audi many years ago?
More like you should be worrying about the Chinese automakers.
Actually, the company I work for is a tier-2 supplier of these Jap automakers so we’re hoping for them to resolve their mess quickly.

I'm actually able to stick the key in the slot and turn, what a concept.
Why can’t Toyota sell me a “defective” car at a discount if i am willing to assume any “risk”. I’ll sign a waiver. NP. Those cars on the lots now with “defective” peddles are the LAST priority to get “fixed”.
