Carteresque [Obama: "I Choose MY Friends Carefully"]
National Review ^ | January 30, 2010 | Mona Charen

JANUARY 29, 2010 Carteresque Obama thinks we’ve lost confidence in America when we’ve just lost confidence in him.

By Mona Charen.

In 1960, Fidel Castro addressed the U.N. General Assembly for four and a half hours. President Obama didn’t hit that target last night — it only felt like it. The president had some things to get off this chest — and if it took 70-plus minutes, well, lucky us, we got to listen.

The speech answered the question that began to form when Republicans took the governorships of Virginia and New Jersey and came into sharp focus after Scott Brown delivered his haymaker on January 21: Would Obama pivot like Clinton in 1994 or not?

He will not.

This isn’t surprising. Obama is a conviction politician. Raised in a left-wing cocoon, he has never given evidence of being anything other than a true-believing left-liberal. Describing his college experience in The Audacity of Hope, he writes: “I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.” Sounds like a list of his czars.

So no, President Obama is not going to reassure voters that he has gotten their message. He is not going to tack to the political center. He is not going to acknowledge overreaching on the matter of nationalizing health care. These are moral issues for him. Promoting his health-care reform to religious leaders last August, he said, “It is a core ethical and moral obligation that we look after each other. In the wealthiest nation on earth, we are neglecting to live up to that call.” We embarrass him.

"Obama thinks we’ve lost confidence in America when we’ve just lost confidence in him."

I can't lose something I never had.

It is my understanding that Premier Hussein used the word “I” 96 times in those 70 minutes.

Even for him, that is a tangible (yet dubious) accomplishment.

Help yourself to a Guinness, Mona - you're exactly right. Most of the commentators over the last couple of weeks either don't realize this or are pretending they don't.

Judging by those Jack Squat has placed around him, no doubts that he chooses his “friends” carefully....in fact, there is no doubt that Jack Squat can be identified and judged by those he has surrounding them.

Two things Obama never knew about ethical and moral obligation.

O’s hero Karl Marx once gave a 3 hour speech and never used the personal pronoun “ I’ at any time.

This question is a really bad analogy, and I'm disappointed that Charen and others keep perpetuating it.

In the correct timeline analogy, we haven't hit "1994" yet. We're still in the pre-midterm phase, which in the first two years of the Clinton Administration was a time that not only saw the same kinds of lost election ... but also MANY Dem Congressmen and Senators jumping ship and switching to the GOP.

Clinton didn't "pivot" until after the mid-terms. And at that point he had no choice: the GOP had not only retaken both Houses, but the Dem leadership in Congress was absolutely decimated by the twin losses of Senator Mitchell (retired) and Speaker Foley (was defeated) ... leaving Clinton as the undisputed head of the Dem Party.

“I chose my friends carefully."

I don't know if that statement is scarier on the assumption that it's true - in which case he knowingly and intentionally chose to associate with the likes of Bill Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist, or that it's false - in which case he's as dangerous as a loaded gun with a faulty trigger because he can be so easily fooled into associating with the likes of Bill Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist.

What about the last couple of YEARS?? Where was the MSM?/s;) Well, that’s hardly an excuse anyhow- his Communist roots were available to anybody with a computer and Internet access.

Again you lie, You don’t pick your friends you pick those who will be your willing slaves to be used to benifit your purposes, keep the eyes off of your corrupt dealings and then thrown under the bus when they are no longer useful to bebifit you.

You’re right, of course, but I was referring specifically to the issue of whether Zero would “change course” due to the election losses of the past month.
