“Longtime civil rights activist Marsha Joyner tearfully apologized yesterday for stealing $14,700 from her condominium association... Joyner, [ex]president of the Martin Luther King Coalition-Hawaii and one of four presidential electors chosen by the state Democratic Party in 1996, admitted yesterday she took money that belonged to the association 22 times”

“I am the oldest of the seventh generation, has owned Afro-American Newspapers... There has never been a time in my life when I have not been a part of a “cause”. The newspaper was always championing the cause of “Civil Rights”. Which has afforded me the opportunity to know most of the great Black, leaders and martyrs of our time.”

Bingo, connecting dots to Hawaiian newspapers and the BC announcement. There’s much more on her but this was just a quick couple minute search that is screaming further investigation.
