The question is, what will Crist do next? As I see it, he has two options. First, he can bow out of the primary, campaign energetically for Rubio in November, and hope the party moves to the center far enough for him to run again at some future date. Second, he can make the case that the party has gotten too extreme for him -- a legitimate case, as Crist is genuinely moderate on most of the key issues -- and run for Senate as an independent or as a Democrat. Neither option is particularly easy, though the second seems easier than the first.
And now it looks like Crist just might be thinking along the same lines. Apparently he plans to join President Obama for his political appearance this week in Tampa. Last October, when Crist still held a lead over Rubio, he skipped out on Obama's Florida visit. This time he's going to be there. Politico describes this as a strange choice:
Confounding observers who attribute Crists vulnerability to his support for parts of the White Houses agenda, the governor said he might join Obama during a presidential visit to Tampa Thursday.
I'm not confounded. The question is whether the Democrats are smart enough to woo Crist, who's their only plausible vehicle to win that Senate seat this year.
Party switching it worked so well for Specter. And who votes for someone with that character flaw.
“The question is whether the Democrats are smart enough to woo Crist, who’s their only plausible vehicle to win that Senate seat this year.”
No, Jonathan. The question is: why would Crist, who is already tanking because he’s a limp-wristed, pantywaist, squishy “moderate”, decide to completely throw himself off a political cliff by shifting further left and embracing Zero, who will be completely radioactive come November?
If he goes Rat or not, we will be getting rid of a RINO. It is win win for us.
Right.
So Rubio whips a Sphincter wannabe ...what’s the down side?
Depends upon the asking price.
If he’s smart he’ll drop out, finish his term and then run against that idiot Bill Nelson.
if he plans to do an Arlen Specter, hopefully he will have the same political future as Arlen Specter. Only sooner.
Exactly. Mark my words, 4 years of Obama will do more damage to Democrats than 8 years of Bush. Whoever has a “D” after their name will wish they had an “R”.
Going rat while pretending he was a Republican was his original sin. Making it official is the honest thing to do.
Dems will no doubt try to enlist Crist as their only good hope of winning the seat. But it will be the kiss of death for Crist, given the already anti-lib, anti-dem mood in the nation. And another gleeful sell-out, more interested in HIS future than that of the nation??!! Worked real well for Specter didn’t it!!
Charlie’s best bet is to finish his term strongly and run against Nelson when is up for reelection. Unless someone else is waiting in the wings for that Senate run (Jeb, Mack, etc), I would be comfortable with him running at that time. He would be one of only a few that might be able to beat out the incumbent Nelson. I would pick a Rino like Charlie over Nelson any day.
He’s radioactive NOW, Sharp. Zero announced he wants to kill all the aerospace jobs in central FL, canceling Constellation, Ares I and Ares V.
If he tried the party switch he would get destroyed against Rubio. The entire Jeb Bush apparatus - who already is pretty much all solidly behind Rubio - would go all-in to win the seat and Charlie would be in for a hurtin’.
All New Repugnic articles get a complementary Barf Alert!
Worth repeating!
.
I dearly hope he does. What a testament to stupidity it would be to do so just as Dems are jumping ship left, right and center!
The track record for defectors and traitors is not very good. Especially when you choose the side on the decline. Better to suck it up and try to gain the good graces of conservatives and get on the winning side.
How do you think Colin Powell, Arlen Specter are feeling right now?
Crist is a chameleon. and not even a good one.
no core values.
