The United States needs to create an environment that empowers business if it wants to turn its economy around, Gov. John Hoeven told the Minot Kiwanis Tuesday.
"That's the focus we have as a state, and that's why we are making progress," he said. "Because of that focus on economic development, North Dakota is doing much better than the national economy."
Hoeven, who announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate earlier this month, is one of two Republicans seeking their party's endorsement for the seat being vacated with the retirement of Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D
