When President Bill Clinton faced Congress in 1995, after first losing any hope of health-care reform and then control of Congress, he used his State of the Union speech to declare, "The era of big government is over." President Obama's State of the Union speech last night only served to remind us that the era of big speeches is over.
As America struggles with a 10 percent unemployment rate, stubbornly refusing to go down even as other economic numbers seem to rise, the public will no longer believe in speeches -- only in results. As Cuba Gooding Jr. says to Tom Cruise in "Jerry Maguire," Americans are saying, "show me the money."
In this sense, the Obama administration is remarkably similar to that of George W. Bush: There's no hope of overcoming the president's political problems by speeches, spin or posturing. It'll take results.

Americans are saying “show me the money”, but we’re also saying “DON”T TREAD ON ME”.
BTW, kudos to Justice Alito for having a Joe Wilson moment but without the coarseness.
He is a tyrant and big mouth who arrogantly has no use for the U.S. Constitution, the Supreme Court or the slightest restraint upon his efforts to shove communism down the throats of the American people.
History will record Obama as the most hated tyrant ever to be elected President. Before Obama is kicked out the door, he will be the cause of exile of his party from serious participation in American politics for a hundred years.
I noticed the joint chiefs gave the obligatory polite applause UNTIL he mentioned allowing gays to serve openly. After that they sat stone-faced and hardly moved at all. I would have stood up and walked out at that point.
Funny thing, he can not bring hiself to understand why we the people hate his guts.
I can not beleive there have been NO dems to take a stand and say this guy is garbage.
I guess that will have to wait til his party is decimated in the coming 2010 elections.
However, this morning they are all happy again - thinking he is on their side and he will do all he promised.
So sad - like watching some poor woman with a Narcissistic boyfriend. So easily fooled - so easy to forgive again and again.
So how many times did he say “I”?
I miss the coarseness.

It’s really incomprehensible to me that as he runs the ship of state off a cliff that every freedom loving American isn’t in the collective face of Washington saying “STOP THE MADNESS!” His speech last night only confirms that the definition of insanity truly is doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting a different result. He and his cohorts in Washington REFUSE to listen to the American people and as such will be shown the door in November.
I believe Karl Rove counted 94 times. Plus he said “me” a lot also.
The joint chiefs can’t insult the office of the Presidency by walking out that way.
About the only thing they can do is resign in protest.
It comes with the uniform.
Perhaps you’re right - sometimes a dollop of coarseness is needed to reinforce the point being made.
I have been saying for months now, that obama will go down in history as the most corrupt President in history, and now I feel justified in saying it!
I was thinking of the Patton Doctrine, when he wanted it to stick... he gave it to them “down and dirty”.

Pathetic, plodding, and petulant; that’s how I’d describe the speech. Wow, what an opportunity lost for articulating the goals of the left, and they got THIS? Just wow.
It would be truly hilarious if it weren’t so sad.
