Illinois Governor's Race: Both Parties' Primaries Too Close To Call
CQ Politics (Congressional Quarterly Online). ^ | January 27, 2010 12:47 PM | CQ Staff

Two new polls show the Democratic and Republican primaries for governor of Illinois are both too close to predict

...Looking at the Republican Party's gubernatorial primary, PPP surveyed 573 likely GOP voters, with an error margin of 4.1 points, and Rasmussen surveyed 527 likely primary voters, and said its result had an error margin of 4.5 points. Both companies found a fractured field.

PPP's results:

Dillard, 19 percent; McKenna, 17 percent; Brady, 16 percent; Ryan, 13 percent; Andrzejewski, 11; Proft, 7 percnet; and Schillerstrom, 1 percent.

Rasmussen's results:

McKenna, 20 percent; Ryan, 16 percent; Dillard, 13; Andrzejewski and Brady, both 11 percent; and Proft, 8 percent.

The primary is Feb. 2.

PPP also tested a few names in hypothetical head-to-head matchups and found that no matter what the outcome of the primaries, the winners will have to be braced for a tough fight in the fall.

CQ Politics rates the race Leans Democratic

Will Tea Party Activists come out for Pat Hughes (or conversely against-Mark Kirk)??

And who is the BEST/Most conservative (and winnable) choice for Guv?

Yes, but Kirk has a huge lead and will get the nomination.

Proft or Adamjesky(?) but they trail badly. Gov race really won't matter. The State is run by Mike Madigan in the House. He controls both the House and Senate. His daughter Lisa Madigan is States Atty so nobody crosses him.

The only good thing is if Kirk wins he can probably win in the fall. At best he's a John McCain RINO.

Brady is the only downstater in the race.

The liberal Kirk will lose to the Democrat. NO MORE RINOs! The Stupid Party can't even nominate a real conservative in IL!

No he won't.

I'm supporting Hughes in the primary, but when Kirk wins the nomination I will vote for him in the general. I won't give him any money as I have Hughes and I don't to the party. Idealogical purity gave the Rats 60 seats in the Senate and a huge majority in the House.

Well it might help ;), at this late date, doubt it, but stranger things have happened: NY 23 (where at least we beat the ‘Rinopublican’ and Obviously MA Special-El Senate Seat won by Scott Brown..

I don’t know how many of you have seen this commercial Kirk Dillard did for Obama, but no one really knows about it.

PASS IT ON.

This guy can’t win the nomination, nor can McKenna.

Brady is the most conservative guy in the race that has a grasp on government.

He is a conservative, he’s good on the issues. He is sort of...blah, though. And he seems to have some ethical issues.

I’m starting to lean toward Andrzejewski. At first I was put off by his reliance on executive orders, since it struck me as anti-democratic (we have a dictator in the White House; we don’t need one in Springfield as well). However, as I read his material, it seems that he is looking for two executive orders in particular, for transparency of the budget and for a close audit of state expenses, and I am very much in favor of both of those.
