In the upcoming congressional races, Stuart Rothenberg said 72 House seats are now in play — almost one-fifth of the total.

58 are Democratic seats, 14 Republican.

That is enough to give Republicans a majority.

If.

Among the seats in play is Democratic Congressman Alan Mollohan of Northern West Virginia, who already is having money problems; he is however, the 24th richest member of the House.

Rothenberg lists Mollohan’s seat as “leans Democratic” — a post Massachusetts election downgrade from “Democrat Favored.”

It is time for Mollohan to go. I have to wonder how he ended up so rich in such a poor state?

“In its 2009 report, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) named Mollohan one of the 15 most corrupt members of Congress, stating that he has “steered hundreds of millions of dollars in earmarks to family, friends, former employees and corporations in exchange for contributions to his campaign and political action committees. In addition, Rep. Mollohan misreported his personal assets on his financial disclosure forms. He is currently the subject of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.” Due to the pending investigation, Mollohan stepped down from his position on the House Appropriations Committee. [4] Mollohan was also listed on the organization’s 2006, 2007, and 2008 reports.[5]”

Interestingly enough the justice department just cleared him in time for re-election. He claims they never even contacted him for an interview.

This is my “representative” even though I have never voted for him. I’d like to think there’s a chance he won’t be re-elected but I’m certainly not getting up any hopes. I will, however, donate to the campaign of any worthy conservative challenger.

I live in his district, just like “Animal Farm” some animals are more equal than others. He fits into that category. At least he will have opposition this year.

I used to live in his District. What continues to amaze me is how out of totally out of sync the values of West Virginia Representatives are with the people they represent.

I’m not sure his district has any Republicans (grew up there). Who is running against him?

West Virginia’s history is one of ALWAYS voting for the incumbent.
