Military Uniform Regs: Expert Needed
1/26/10 | Nick Danger

Posted on 01/26/2010 12:28:00 PM PST by Nick Danger

The picture below was taken at a county fair. It shows an individual sitting in the Democratic Party booth wearing an air force uniform. We have determined

Questions:

Is this individual's behavior legal? Can one campaign for partisan office in uniform? Can someone no longer in the air force wear the uniform at all, let alone to campaign?

If you are knowledgable on this subject, please provide a citation to the applicable regulations, and instructions on how to report this to the proper authorities.

Please do not speculate. If you don't know for certain, please don't pretend you do.We intend to file an official complaint, and we want it done right.

You should read some of my other posts regarding serving in the military. He put his foot squarely in his mouth with his comment/reply to post #4. If he doesn’t like it, he should think twice about knocking a military service. I don’t run around doing the same out of respect for those in uniform, any uniform.

Btw, when were you at Shaw AFB? I was with the 33rd and then the 17th FS’s from ‘91-’94.

Brigadier General Robin Olds.

After graduation from West Point, then Lt. Olds was assigned to the European Theater near the end of WWII. He first flew P-38 Lightnings and later P-51 Mustangs. During this period, he was credited with 12 aerial victories. By the end of his tour, he was the commander of his fighter squadron.

Following the end of WWII, he commanded two wings in Europe until he was transferred to Southeast Asia.

Colonel Olds took over command of the 8th Fighter Wing at Uban, Thailand flying F-4 Phantoms against North Vietnamese Migs. While in command of the “Wolf Pack”, he lead his wing to 24 aerial victories, 4 of them, his own. Additionally, he is credited with refining air to air tactics including “OPERATION BOLO” in which his F-4's would fly in formations resembling F-105's formations to lure Migs to them. His decorations include the Air Force Cross, 4 Silver Stars and the Air Medal with 39 oak leaf clusters.

General Olds, throughout his career, advocated better fighters, better training and better tactics and his techniques are in use today.

And he wore a funny hat and sold ice cream...

He was US Air Force. He never contributed to any national security goals. He only wore a funny cap and leather jacket.

And he sold ice cream sprinkled with an Air Force Cross, 4 Silver Stars and the Air Medal with 39 oak leaf clusters.

LOL! Yeah, the Air Force really isn’t the military so it’s basically a guy dressed like ralph cramden.

Well, pretty much, yeah. We all know that AF boot camp is the only one you can show up with golf clubs and they don't laugh at you. :-)

I don’t honestly know.

I worked the flightline and wore BDUs everyday. The only time I ever wore my Class A’s was during basic and then enroute to tech school.

Mine weren’t up to date. I left the AF an E-5 and had E-2 rank on my “blues.”

The ongoing joke was that anyone who worked the flightline should maintain their blues with one less stripe than their current rank. Because if you ever had to put them on, it would be because you were in some serious trouble, and would be losing rank anyway.

My dad is a River Rat and he was there for the first “unofficial” parade and celebration. I am in the process of applying for an Associate Membership with the RR and will proudly attend the annual River Rats convention in Orlando with my dad and mom this year. Do you know SHADOW? River Rats director? Regarding the offensive comments relative to the AF, there are plenty of guys that are and have been on the ground that love to see the AF engage so they can have a better chance to survive. The heroism that has been demonstrated by pilots in an effort to assist those on the ground has been, and I suspect, will continue to be nothing short of exceptional.

General Old’s tactics and techniques were being implemented just prior to my dad getting to Korat. I have no doubt that what General Old’s did increased the odds of survival for F-105 pilots. Thanks for posting your comments.

Your comment regarding the Air Force is offensive. The blood of men and women in the Air Force is just as red as those in other branches of the military. You should hang your head in shame.

LOL.
Funny how things change. When I was regular army we wore fatigues and steel pots for helmets.
Years later when I did a stint in the army guard we wore BDUs and the german style kevlar helmets.

In my opinion, if he’s past or current military he can jab, in a joking manner, any other branch he wants. He’s earned the right.
However, his about page has no info and he hasn’t responded, so who knows.
I’ve got buddies and relatives that served in all branches up to the rank of full colonel. I give them crap about their branch and vice versa.

If he/she is just giving crap about another branch of service, which does happen all the time in the military, then the comments should reflect that it is just crap so as not to offend others. Those in the military, or family members, have also earned the right to make sure our military members are treated with respect. OBTW, I love hearing my dad, a Thud pilot, trash other pilots that few in the vicinity of Thud Ridge. Those other pilots shall remain nameless due to the fact that it is just one pilot, who has earned the right to trash talk about another group of pilots, talking trash. It does happen all the time. Have a good day and thanks for your comments.
