Losing their 60 seat supermajority may be a good thing, Joe Biden suggested today.
Speaking to a meeting of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Finance Committee, Biden said that the supermajority came with excessively high expectations.
"Yes it's had a practical impact, but I'm not so sure what a blessing 60 votes was. Not a joke, I mean it sincerely," he said, according to a pool report.
"When we had sixty votes there was the expectation left, right, and center that we could do everything we wanted to do, which was never realistic. Never," he explained.
Biden tried to buck up the audience after a series of setbacks for the party. He insisted that the administration is "not backing off a single thing we believe in."
"The reports of our demise are premature," he said. "It's time everybody take a deep breath, take a deep breath, let's put this in perspective. Yeah, we took a hit and the frustration was aggravated by the fact that Teddy's seat was lost," Biden said, but added that the emotional weight of losing Kennedy's seat "makes it sound more profound than it is."
When it comes to “bucking up”, Joe’s your man.
I like his positive attitude. It’s stimulating.
STAND UP, CHUCK!
Or, just upchuck!
Yep, if I was Chis Matthews, talk like this would go straight to my leg!
But wait just a guldurn minute here...Gibbs said that the Brown victory showed support for Obama's programs...now Joe says it was bad? I am sooooo confused.
Like Biden I'm an optimist and always look for a silver lining. Is there a Mother-in-law in the magazine?
Just think how much better it will be when you lose the simple majority Joe!
If losing the supermajority is a “blessing” what will losing all of Congress and getting Obama impeached? I guess that would be a “blessing” for Biden also (he becomes President).
Yep! I’d say you would have a leg up on Chris Mathews!
