You know what? The world was a lot better place then. Some people/children only understand one thing - If I do (insert action here), I will not like the results. Seriously. Sometimes, the only deterrent is severe unpleasantness.

Violence for violence’s sake is evil. This may be heresy, but one of my favorite preachers says that Jesus didn’t say what to do after you turned the other cheek and he struck that one, too...

I dealt with a bullies in a similar fashion on more than one occasion when I was a kid, treated them nicely afterwards, and I think they were better people for it.

“I have always thought that hell would remind me of Junior High School. It is a horrible age and a horrible existence. The injection of hormornes in crowded circumstance can truly be a hellish experience.”

We were too scared of being knifed to worry about all the drama. It was the first year of court-ordered busing. We were just happy to survive. We moved to the mountains to put our kids in school. Our kids just complain about the drama. Music to my ears.

Goes along with what I taught my kids. You don’t start it, but you sure as heck finish it. In this case you were just finishing it.

Never saw the movie, but I recall some of their statements that they made that they recorded prior to their killing spree. They basically said they were getting back at all of the jocks and others who they felt were harrassing them.

Do I agree it’s the Right thing to do?Of course NOT.

Well, I’m not saying that it didn’t exist back then, but our society today is more highly “sexualized” as “the norm” more so than it ever was before, and it’s been documented that it’s going on at earlier and earlier ages.

So, even though a certain amount went on before, it’s way more prevalent now and you can’t miss it in our culture, too, from newspapers to magazines to TV to the radio to even what has been reported, that oral sex is the new “goodnight kiss” for kids...

I wouldn’t be minimizing what is going on today, in that area, as compared to what went on before.

If parents think that they’re worried about the “sex education” in a certain class meeting that may happen once or twice — they actually should be more concerned about the “oral sex” that is going on which is looked at as merely a “goodnight kiss” and nothing more...

To me, that beats any sex education class by a factor of about 100 to 1 — I would say...

A 15 year old is plenty old enough to know how to treat others properly.

I agree. When I was 15, I wouldn't have dreamed of treating anyone that way, and neither would most of the kids I knew. The kids who were mean weren't as cruel and vicious as they seem to be today.

Kids can’t defend themselves nowadays. If they do, then they are the ones’ to get kicked out. I know I’ve been there and my son has been there. Schools are worthless when it comes to protecting the innocent.

Back when my youngest son was in middle school, there were these two boys who thought they were hot stuff and they started messing with him, especially on the bus. Finally, one day he had enough and when challenged, he beat the crap out of one of the bullies, with my blessing. Both my son and the bully received the exact same punishment for fighting, regardless of the history and circumstances.

I knew what was going on and countered the school's lack of common sense by not punishing my son. Just to clarify, I didn't encourage him to become a bully himself, but to defend himself.

BTW, my son played football and also started power lifting and also wrestled. He countered the bullying crap by developing himself. He became a New York State Champion in power lifting in his senior year of high school and he plays college football now for a school out in the mid-west.

Lesson to be passed on. If your kid is getting bullied, encourage them to develop themselves through weight training, self defense training and stand with them when they defend themselves, especially at school, because they will get in as much trouble as the bullies, but after they get their butts kicked, the bullies will leave them alone. That's the only thing that works.

Are we really raising a generation of monsters?

The trouble is nobody IS raising them. Absentee parenting.

While I agree 15 year olds should show restraint in tongue as well as fists, my memory is the 13 to 14 year olds mixed with the “pack mentaility” and spiced with newly arrived hormornes can be a potent elixir that can cause serious harm. From my life, I have seen a lot of bullies grow out of the bully stage, but I have noticed a lot of bullied individuals become the worst people to work with in adulthood. Once a bullied individual gains power their propensity to bully others is overwhelming. This is the lasting damage of the bully to bullied phenomena in my opinion.

You were saying ...

Bullies will pick a kid and hound them without pause. In the old days a kid being bullied could defend themselves. Today any action by the victim will only result in punishment by the school.

Well, with me being the so-called "victim" (although I did beat the hell out of the bully) -- I ended up being expelled for a week from school anyway...

And we're talking over 40 years ago for this... :-)

So, if the guy getting picked on and pursued by the bully is the so-called "victim" (not counting him being sent to the hospital... LOL...) -- then they expelled the victims, too -- back then... :-)

I think they were using that as an excuse.

IMO Harris and Klebold were always the anti-social bullies. Not the other way around.

I think most kids that come from good families are the same as kids always were. It’s the always increasing population of kids from broken homes with absentee parents that changes things. I know the type of family doesn’t always produce a certain type of kid but it does make a difference. The increase in single parents has increased the number of troubled kids. There are prisons that are full of these miniature versions of their parents.

After hearing several comments blaming public schools for the “bullying” issues, I must respond that I never got bullied at school, but I sure did by some neighborhood bullies.

Also, kids today are the same as they always have been - but, the difference is our society today. Back in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s the majority of homes were two parent families. There were no cable movie channels - from that one thing alone, kids are exposed to explicit sex and violence like never before and at much younger ages. We have cartoon shows laced with profanity and sex and many parents let their kids sit there and watch them.

I've had first and second grade kids who know about oral sex and anal sex!! How in the world do they even know those words let alone know what they mean?? It's got to be from the movies and music today that's assessable on nearly everyone's TV. The point is, our society has changed and there are consequences that go along with that. I think that only true, spiritual revival will save our country from total collapse and decadance.

This story makes me very angry and very sad. Angry at the devil and angry at those bullies who allowed themselves to be used by him to torment this girl.

If she had just ONE friend would speak up, fight for her, and help her fight back, she would still be alive. I wish I could have been there for her.

Lord, I ask you would hold and bless Phoebe now - flow your love, life, and light into her and wipe away every tear from her eyes. I ask these things in Jesus’ name.

Sometimes I wonder. This same thing happened to my daughter (rude comments on MySpace) after she passed away.

Little cretins who “know” everything based on other cretins who haven’t got a clue...

Kids can’t defend themselves nowadays.

When I was a young {13 yr old} teenager a 16 year old bully took pleasure pushing the younger kids around.

He was a head taller and 50 lbs heavier than I was.

When I decided that I'd enough, I got two rolls of pennies and put leather gloves on.

When I saw him after school, I walked straight over to him, looked right at him as he dared me to hit him and I punched him "in the groin area".

I beat the hell out of him and I was a hero to all of the younger folks.

It's wasn't the Marquis of Queensberry rules but I didn't plan on letting him beat me up again.

Neither my buddies nor I cared that I had an equalizer but if that happened today, I'd go to jail.

The bully boy didn't mess with us younger kids even though he found out that I'd used weighted gloves to pummel him.

In my daughters case it was MySpace and it took three weeks for me to hack her login. Privacy rules and she was always good about using strong passwords.

It's none of my business, but you brought it up.

Why didn't you just ask your daughter her password? Your house, your computer, your internet.

I was in only in three fights in High School, kid would say "Want to Fight, meet me at the Wall". I had rather a savage temper, from where I don't know.

Meet at the wall, loose it, total black out, get pulled off of the kid before serious damage was done, over. My adrenalin gave out at thirty, thank God it takes a lot to provoke me. Had one or two good Brawl's in my Twenties in the Army but after that Peace, Love.
