I just had Vietnamese for lunch - rice vermicelli noodles with pickled vegetables, lettuce and bean sprouts, a little grilled pork, a skewer of grilled shrimp, and a spring roll (the only fried thing in the meal). All for the price of a double Whopper combo, but much cheaper, not to mention tastier and healthier. Came with free jamine tea - no calories.

In any case, if there are no or few healthy food choices in the area, that probably suggests that few people are interested in such a thing. Such is life - the market will only provide that which there is a reasonable demand for. For example, I’d like to buy a Japanese station wagon, but they don’t sell when they are brought to this market, so the manufacturers don’t bother selling them here. People want the tall station wagons with silly styling known as crossover SUVs, instead. Not my preference, but obviously it is for a lot of people.

Heh. Even the English and Scottish don’t want to eat English or Scottish food ;) That’s why the UK is full of curry joints and kebap shops (one of the few good things all those middle eastern and south asian immigrant brought with them).

We want healthy options in our community.

Well, you could get off your lazy butt, go to a grocery store and buy some healthy food to cook. It'd be cheaper, too. Idiot.

Turner is negotiating with individual developers, and Harrington has introduced a bill in the General Assembly that would impose a moratorium on issuing licenses to new fast-food businesses.

Wonder if either of them owns one of these fast-food options. Or are they just running the classic Democratic extortion/protection racket.

You just know it's one or the other.

If people want healthy options, then some smart person should open up a fast food restaurant with a “healthy” menu. I've seen a few of these restaurants around. They have salads, soups, yogurt bars, healthy sandwiches, etc. If people really want this then they will frequent the “healthy” places and won't frequent the others. This is the way it's supposed to work. The “healthy restaurant” will be successful and others will follow to compete. This is the nature of how it's done in our system. We don't want busy bodies like this clown deciding for us.

“For community activist Arthur Turner and state Sen. David C. Harrington (D-Prince George’s), the strip is evidence of the proliferation of burger joints and Chinese takeouts in the county, especially in poorer, inner Capital Beltway communities.”

Because they’re CHEAP!

Would you rather they starve?

“You better buy only this organic mumbo-jumbo vegetable medley, because it’s good for you.”

Start making your liberal health-nut garbage cheaper and maybe things will change!

That would require too much work, which is a corollary of “self-responsibility”, which Dems despise.
