The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fourth edition is a widely used manual for psychologists, mental health experts, etc. to diagnose people's behaviors. Look at the list below, and see if you can recognize those indicators in certain politician...
- has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents,
- expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
- is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
- believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)
- requires excessive admiration has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations
- is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends
- lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
- is often envious of others or believes others are envious of him or her
- shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

You crack me up with that talent of yours.
Thanks. The reason I posted the thread is so people can see the DSM-IV-TR themselves, the manual that mental health professional use as their bible. I’m not a psychologist, but I know that the manual is their standard for diagnosing behaviors.
Sounds like a former stockholder I know.
I like meself. I love meself. I think meself grand. I take meself to the picture movie. I hold me own hand.
Perhaps Al Franken was brought to Washington for such a time as this.
that applies to pretty much all of them.
I’ve often wondered. Is this an actual picture or is it photo-shopped? Wierd pose ...
Not photoshopped, and only one of several which have caught the affrirmative action prick in that nose in the air pose.
The narcissist's personality is so precariously balanced that he cannot tolerate even a hint of criticism and disagreement. Most narcissists are paranoid and suffer from ideas of reference (the delusion that they are being mocked or discussed when they are not). Thus, narcissists often regard themselves as "victims of persecution".
I do not pretend to be a psychiatrist.
However, if in Wednesday's SOTU, Mister Obama presents himself as a victim rather than graciously accepting the criticism of the voters, and if he is into ever more accusative "blames", then I suspect Dr Vaknin's piece just might be getting some wider attention.
I hope I'm wrong, btw.
.
This is hilarious, but like all funny things it has that chilling trueness to it. When something scares the hell out of me, I often laugh as well.
His prompter goes reflective when they want to get a big smile out of him. Works every time.
hard to find too many pols who don’t meet a lot of the criteria, but there is no question that our Narcissist-in-Chief has a most virulent case of the disorder
a big concern is how such a person reacts when his political and media world of adoration is collapsing —— can he keep his rage under control or will he be increasingly dangerous to all?
Wow! Looks like you’re describing Tom DeLay, Ralph Reed, Phil Gramm, and others in the Republican Party who are sociopaths praying on the naivete of Christian Conservatives and Big-L Libertarians.
