International Relief Agency Oxfam Urges Foreign Ministers to Cancel Haiti’s Debt

International relief and development organization Oxfam says Foreign ministers meeting in Montreal today should agree to cancel Haiti’s $890 million international debt in the wake of the devastating earthquake.

Debt cancellation is one of Oxfam’s five priorities for Haitian reconstruction.

They also say support of the Haitian government is one of the ways to help Haiti, but they should make that "support of an honest, democratic government in Haiti."

I disagree with this. Help build Haiti into a good democratic country and have them own up to their responsibilities. Will the world cancel our debt? Better yet, will they cancel my debt? It’s suggesting another bail out. Their debt can be postponed, not canceled.

True debt load of the USA NATIONALLY—not counting our exposure INTERNATIONALLY (we have a significant exposure in the 1.4 quadrillion) is 43 trillion dollars.

That is 1 million 400 hundred thousand trillion dollars.
