LONDON — The NATO commander in Afghanistan said his troop surge could lead to a negotiated peace with the Taliban, in an interview published Monday ahead of a major conference this week on the war.
US General Stanley McChrystal also told the Financial Times he hopes his allies will leave Thursday's meeting in London with a "renewed commitment" to the increasingly bloody conflict.
By using the 30,000-strong surge in US troops to secure territory stretching from the Taliban's southern heartlands to Kabul, the general said he aims to weaken the insurgency so much its leaders would accept a political settlement.
"As a soldier, my personal feeling is that there's been enough fighting," said McChrystal.
"I believe that a political solution to all conflicts is the inevitable outcome. And it's the right outcome," he added.
Asked is he would be content to see Taliban leaders in a future government in the country, the general said: "I think any Afghans can play a role if they focus on the future, and not the past."

The Taliban don’t do Peace. Neither do Hamas or any other terrorist organization. Islam is not a religion of peace. Does everyone know this but the UN and NATO?
First, the Taliban must cough up a live al-Zawahiri [and UBL’s remains]. Then and only then, should the Coalition even think about letting them off the hook.
Some lessons are going to have to be learned the hard way.

I love[d] McChrystal, but this HAS to be a joke?!
So, under GWB we drive back the Taliban and help a fledgling (albeit now possibly corrupt) democracy set itself up, and after just one freaking year of Zer0bummer’s dithering and incompetence, we are merely hoping to leave Afghanistan with the Taliban back in control so they can restart the beaheadings in the soccer stadium?!

how do you negotiate peace with someone who’s only goal in life is to cut off your head?

There is a difference between part-time/bought Taliban and hardcore Taliban.....Gen. McChrystal knows the difference.....that I’m sure of. Most people who have never been to Stan, don’t understand this reality.

McC is obummers lap dog- - first thing he did was put in his NRE - soldiers can't shoot until the Taliban get the first shot - which of course allows the Taliban to get closer and dug in -
Can't shoot if there's a possibility of a civilian in the area - the Tali’s make sure there is.
Can't shoot at a mosque - even when being shot at from -
Capture a Tali - can't question - must read the Miranda rights!

The highest losses of our troops month after month than since the war began.
Why does no one listen?
And obummer expressed this treating with the Taliban and giving them back large areas of the county - areas our troops fought and died in - in conditions you would find hard to believe =- and he just want s to hand it all back.
He SAID, just a few weeks ago, that there are no more enemy in Afghanistan - not more than a hundred in the whole country...that's because he does not consider the Taliban terrorist or the enemy (which they aren't, I believe, to HIM)
He SAID, in his ‘tough’ talk after the undie bomber that ‘We are at war - “ and h e named the enemy: “Al Queda.” He never metioned the Taliban.
And remember Coakley in her debate with Brown: “There are no more terrorists in AFghanistan. The terrorists are all gone.”
Everyone gasped...but she was just parroting obummer’s beliefs. Did no one listen when he finally said “We are at war...” after he finally admitted that the undie bomber was, after all, a terrorist. But did you listen closely? “We are at war with al Queda.” He never mentioned the Taliban and all the factions of Muslims around the world intent on killing all non-Muslims.
He is protecting the Taliban. He is intent on making ‘friends’ with them. And we will likely see Afghanistan, after we desert them, once again be dragged and butchered back into the stone age. (It would be a good place to then exile certain “enemies within” after treason trials.)
Why does no one listen.
And more of our heroes will die - and more will have victory denied them for all their sacrifice. They are not being allowed to win.

And the Muslim call evening call to prayer is “one of the most beautiful sounds on earth” - and he can recite it in perfect dialect. He learned in Koran classes and he mother used to wake him for 4 o'clock Muslim prayers when he lived with her and her Muslim husband in Jakarta, and was enrolled as Muslim in school.
When will people say: We have a Muslim president.

But the "hardcore" rule
Okay, there are two ways that I can read this. One is good, the other isn’t.
1. McChrystal is doing divide-and-conquer like Petraeus did in Iraq, by convincing Sunni tribes to cut their allegiance to al-Qaeda and join alongside the Coalition and Iraqi forces
2. McChrystal is making the same mistakes that Pakistan made

If true Obama needs to relieve the General of command tomorrow.
You can’t have your leading General saying he’s tired of fighting. Completely unacceptable. McChrystal doesn’t even do any fighting. If he was some NCO in the field I could understand, but for someone like him to say that is amazing.
