It’s not a national loyalty “thing”. The Bar Mitzvah is a religious “thing”. I know many proud Americans who had their kids Bar or Bat Mitzvahed in Israel. It’s loyalty to one’s faith, not one’s nation. Do US Catholics visit the Vatican? Same thing.

Eh...he ought to forget about the whole exercise; he is to Judaism as Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd are to Catholicism.

I have NEVER heard of ANYONE intentionally planning a birthday party for their children to take place outside of the country.

This sort of thing is so far beyond the realm of experience for traditional WASP Americans that - gosh, we honestly don't have polite terms in which we could try to describe it.

Frankly, words like "treason" are what come to mind for us.

If the president's most trusted advisor thinks that the good ol' U. S. of A. isn't, well, good enough for his son's birthday party, then we have a very, very serious problem on our hands.

"It’s loyalty to one’s faith, not one’s nation."

Ok, thanks for the clarification.
