D.C., Md. unemployment rates hit new highs, Va. also up
The D.C. jobless rate hit 12.1 percent in December, its highest level since the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics began reliably tracking statewide unemployment rates in 1976.

This can only mean that a lot of people are collecting UI checks far longer than ever before in the history of UI Compensation laws.
I just cannot imagine what jobs these people had that were lost. What industries shut down in DC? The city is teeming with people - many who do not speak English as their preferred language.
