Easy there, pardner. Don't get your panties in a bunch. As a matter of fact, I LIKE Governor Palin. I wanted her to be the VP nominee before Juan even selected her. It's just that I am a realist. She is a young pup in the world of national politics.
In baseball, when a team signs a talented young pitcher, they don't start him in the bigs right away. They groom him in the minors until he has sufficient experience pitching to quality hitters and the pressure that entails. Then they bring him up to the majors, where he will pitch against the best hitters in the world, and let him do some low pressure relief work. Only after he has gotten his feet wet do they risk putting him in high pressure situations relieving or starting.
This doesn't mean that that don't like him. If they rush a young pitcher, they can ruin his confidence and his career.
The McCain team should never have sent her into the lion's den before she was ready. They should have kept her interviews confined to friendly conservative venues until she was ready for the Leftist press, and when the Leftist press complained they should have told them to go pound sand.
Many Palin fans compare her to President Reagan. But look at Reagan's career trajectory:
In high school, he was a lifeguard who saved 77 lives.
After he graduated, he spent 5 years as a radio announcer specializing in creating play-by-plays of games received by wire.
He had a 20 year career in motion pictures.
He was President of the Screen Actors Guild.
He had career in television.
He worked for GE, and ten weeks out of the year was required to give up to 14 speeches per day. He wrote his own speeches
He campaigned for Barry Goldwater.
He ran two successful campaigns for governor of a state the size of a country (and completed both terms).
He ran for the Republican nomination for President and lost.
Ran again and won.
So you see, President Reagan built his political career over a lifetime. It would have been ludicrous for him to run for President in the early 60s. And it is silly to compare Governor Palin at this stage of her career to President Reagan.
I like Sarah Palin, but I am not a member of her cult. And just as I refuse to deify her, I refuse to condemn her for campaigning for Juan. It would be ungracious of her not to.
That's how I feel about Sarah Palin. But then I haven't had any of the Kool Aid.
As I have said for over 10 years here, you never get someone who agrees with you on everything. You have to look at the total candidate and make your decision based whether they are the closest match.
Perhaps people might entertain the thought that Palin knows what she’s doing.
Sarah Palin could spend a month every year campaigning for McChurian and still easily deliver 85 percent of what the conservative cause needs from her. Throwing her under the bus in favor of a guy polling in the 30s among Arizona Repubs is not what WE need to be doing.
Palin obviously feels a personal debt to McCain and that speaks volumes for her as a human being when you consider what scumbags McCain’s people have been toward her.
Wow. Good stuff. But who is Debra Medina? Do people know her? Can she win? I’ve always thought the ultimate 10th amendment argument is to ask “Would the constitution be ratified today by states when it is now understood just how intrusive and overwhelming the federal government will be?” I doubt even the most liberal states would ratify it.
See post # 192. Chiller obviously disagrees with you.
Thank you for proving my point.
Yet again, a critic of Palin that is based mostly on ad homine attacks directed at her, or her supporters.
The above is exactly the sort of debate tactics that keep those of you critical of Palin from gaining any traction with Freepers.
While your rhetoric is more elegantly phrased then most Palin critics, it still the same sort of sneering, snobby personal attack politics Conservatives are use to seeing directed at them from the Left.
That isn't going to work.
He's just been initiated into the SEIU...he's officially a card-carrying, purple bracelet wearing piece of crap...officially, that is.
So how do you propose the media template on JD?
So how do you propose we deal with the media template on JD?
I know we all feel the same way Bray. (by the way another great post today as well) But, as already stated Sarah is a much better person than McStain and she is just about ready to prove it!
We’ve been through this converstaion and it is clear that only Palin has the grasp and the drive and the background to rebuild America’s domestic energy plant—and we all know that economic renewal begins with cheap enery.
Palin 2012 is our destination, not a primary election in Arizona. That will be long forgotten when the time comes.
and these are people who contribute to society.
OK, I have a legitimate Palin criticism. I listened to her all week on Fox the week she started. She needs a vocal coach.
It’s not far her accent. It’s for the rhythm of her words and her odd placement of high and low inflection. She speeds up at odd places, raises or lowers her tone unexpectedly, and drags words out when it doesn’t make sense.
She doesn’t do it all of the time. She was much more relaxed on Beck’s show and seemed to do it less. On O’Reilly and Hannity it was much more evident. I had a hard time following her because it was distracting.
Also, she does it in interviews, not in speeches. Therefore, I have to assume it’s based on nervousness or something.
So, failing to find any ad hominem attacks on Sarah Palin in my postings, you move the bar to include ad hominem attacks on her supporters, the definition of which seems to be taking exception to emotional reactions resulting from suggestions that she needs seasoning as a politician before running for President.
You want specifics? Here they are:
She botched the Couric interview.
She booted the Gibson interview.
Her speeches were often filled with repetitious platitudes.
Does that mean she'd stupid? No. Does that mean she isn't destined for greatness? No. It means that she was handled poorly by the McCain campaign. And that she is not ready to run for President. Will she be ready in time for 2012? I don't know, but my gut tells me 'no".
That's not an attack, that's an objective opinion. I wish she were the New Ronald Reagan, but she's not, and saying that seems to bring on the same kind of knee-jerk emotions that her endorsement of McCain does.
Blind emotion is for liberals, and cults of personality is what brought us Obama.
And your post should be a template for those who want to critic Palin.

That isn’t going to work.
She is unique among all Republicans alive today—she has been under a barrage of fire from the left and even from some on the right, and certainly from RINOs too, and yet NONE of it deters her and all of it seems to just STRENGTHEN her resolve to push harder for what she believes. Nobody in modern politics has more payback coming her way than Sarah Palin.
Reagan in the period 1968 thru to 1980 is what is evoked for me. No matter what anyone said or did, he just kept coming. Sarah Palin has that same unique quality. She sees straight through to where we need to be, where the solution is, what the righteous response is.
She’s just “got it” and nobody can take it away from her.
I agree.
Many seem to understand why she is sort of throwing a bone to MaCain but if she goes overboard with the campaigning it will severely hurt her credibility with us.
JD worked radio and TV....I don't think he's got many enemies there. He certainly doesn't on the big one, KFYI. He may or may not get the Repugnant editorial endorsement in the primary, won't for the general, but so what. They'll try to smear with Abramoff again, but there were no charges brought.
Now, that said, I personally attended a funeral for a top lady golfer years ago when JD was just running for the first time. Being a recent sportscaster, he spoke, and turned a eulogy into what many felt was a campaign speech which disappointed me greatly. Aside from that inappropriate appeal, he's made most all of the right moves, imho.
I also have a general criticism for a lot of people, both Palin supporters and defenders. We have GOT to drop this emotional stuff about candidates over every little thing.
I have been through 2 presidential campaigns in which this rabid hatred of certain GOP candidates causes problems between people in the party. It’s stupid and counter-productive.
The democrats count on us fighting with each other in the primaries. In fact, they send trolls out on every board to stir it up. By the time June rolls areound in 2012, I can guarantee that if we do not control ourselves, we will have Huckabee fans trashing Romney, and Romney fans trashing Palin, and Guiliani fans trashing them all.
While tempers are still calm, I will remind everyone that when we spend days attacking each other and our own candidates, those are days lost in working against Obama and the rats.
That’s all I have to say on that subject.
The sad thing is that those of us who are hoping that Palin will help lead the conservative cause but are realistic in our evaluation of her present abilities seem to bring out such ire in those who can brook no constructive criticism.
They lump us in with the Leftists and RINOs who hate her. Hell, I wished she were at the top of the ticket in ‘08!
I got the same reactions from people when I criticized President Bush for not fighting back against the Democrat lies. They said I was “Bush bashing”, when all I wanted was for him to defend himself.
It reminds me of the way teenage girls in love react to any non-worshipful observations about the objects of their infatuations.
I think she has morphed into "becoming" a seasoned political person without losing the qualities that we all love within her.
She may never speak like a Rush Limbaugh or another smooth talking person who has years of radio/tv experience but when she talks it's still from the heart still with the knowledge that true leaders put the country first!
Quite frankly, if in 2012 I had a choice in a voting booth of Zero or Sarah it would not be much of a choice whether she was 100% or 65% ready.
Until someone else comes along looking Presidential I'm with Sarah.
