Resurgent Republicans see win as springboard to power
Guardian (London) ^ | 24 Jan 2010 | Paul Harris

The mood in the lunch room of the Florida yacht club was electric. Though the freezing temperatures of ice-bound Massachusetts were a thousand miles away from the warm sunshine of Daytona Beach the talk at the local Republican Club was all about the victory there the day before.

snip . . .

Republicans are now resurgent, plotting to attack Democrats in seats that were once considered safe. Democrats are on the defensive, rapidly rowing back on their already stalled domestic agenda, and fearing the loss of dozens of congressional seats in November's midterm elections.

For the Guardian (very far Left) this is a rather balanced view of the political mood in the states.

IMO they correctly report the mood of the country, the rise of the Tea Party movement and where we go from here.

A bit long, but worth the read. Enjoy

The Guardian UK is probably the most anti-US rag outside of US shores (far-left is an understatement) but this is a surprising article. So surprising there’s no “it’s Bush’s fault’ hidden anecdotes anywhere.

That was my thought. When the Guardian gives a balanced report that says the Democrats are in trouble then you can tell that they are in deep doo doo!!

The Guardian and the BBC use a standard template that all white people are evil and guilty.....of anything and everything.

It was always a trade unionist paper.

I like the part how bitter infighting has broken out including in FL. They are talking about FL deep sixing Charlie Crist and hopefully Juan McStain too.

“Springboard to power”?.. How about a “conduit by which the American people get their democracy back”.

Yacht Club...
Maybe they’ll sail their yachts to Michael Steele’s RNC retreat in Hawaii.
When will Republicans learn?

The Guardian will always tyy and spin for the left wing. This is no different.

Experts point out the strong showing of Republicans in 1994 after Bill Clinton had been in office for only two years. Victory then did not prevent a Democratic landslide in 1996 that gave Clinton his second term.”

Bill Clinton was not even close to 0bama in being a hard line left wing ideologue. 0bama is a hard line communist. There has never been a “moderate” bone in his body. Just look at the people 0bama has appointed to office. It reads like a who is who of left wing radicals in America: Van Jones, Cass Sunstein, Mark Lloyd (FCC Diversity Czar) etc.
This is the not the kind of individual who is going to change course like Clinton did after the clobbering in 1994.
Not to mention the hated 0bamcare bill. No matter what happens, the Democrats will lose votes because of the universal disgust that voters have for 0bamcare.

Covington warned that the long-term demographic trends of the American electorate, such as a growing Hispanic population and a shrinking white one, still boded ill for a Republican party lurching to the right.”

Nonsense.
We heard the same talk this time last year, when the State Run Media declared the 0bama victory as the end of the Republican Party, and the start of another 20 years of Democratic Party domination. How did that one go? A year later, Republicans are busy clobbering the Democrats in true blue New Jersey and Massachusetts.
What these guys don't get is that immigration pattens can and do change. I don't see why immigration from Eastern Europe for example shouldn't pick up at some time with the right policies from a Republican administration, which switches policies so we can get very highly educated science majors from Eastern Europe, which has virtually tens of millions of highly educated people who could raise the standard of living here, instead of a bunch of illiterate Mexicans that drag down living standards.

If the Republicans stay on the course they are on then they will be on the way to being a minority party by 2016 or 2020. Demographically, the future is very sympathetic to Democrats,” he said.

How much does he wanna bet?

I agree. The last time we gave the Republican’s power they spent money like drunken sailors on shore leave!

Hopefully, between the Tea Party movement, conservative independents who are getting involved with politics and the base of the GOP, we will see the Republican’s putting up candidates that reflect the real America. Time will tell.

I guess no Republican Clubs meet at an office building or school auditorium, only Yacht and Country Clubs. What a crock!

Guess it’s better than a year ago, when they’d have had all GOP meetings in a phone booth. That is, if you’re old enough to know what a phone booth IS.

Regarding American with Hispanic roots my read is that they tend to be hardworking, devoted to the church and believe in a strong family.

For the new comers they are willing to take advantage of the economic opportunity America offers and don't take kindly to others that want to share what wealth they have created.

Nope, these folks, fit the profile of conservatives. The Left would like to make you believe that they are on the Democrat plantation but that is so much fluff.

Americans with Hispanic roots are good Americans.
But we are not talking about Americans with Hispanic roots here.
We are talking about nationalistic Mexicans who are in this country illegally, and then turned round and organized demonstrations where they waved Mexican flags, trashed America, trashed American flags, and spit on this country.

For the new comers they are willing to take advantage of the economic opportunity “

I call them illegals and law breakers. They are legal ways to come into this country and take advantage of the economic opportunities. Just illegally walking across our boarders is not one of them.

In theory, they may fit the profile of conservatives. In practice they regularly vote for the most hard line, left wing Democratic Party radical they can find. Look at how Latinos overwhelmingly voted for 0bozo(the most leftist candidate ever), despite John McCain being the by far the guy that fought for amnesty more than anyone else in the US Senate. 0bozo did NOTHING to push the amnesty bill. McCain did most of the work. And what was his reward? The Latinos voted massively against him.

The editor of the Guardian is an ex-American who hates his mother country so much he started trashing it a long time ago. They’ve got their niche of idiot loons to appease so I take any article from this rag with suspicion.

Hispanics also overwhelmingly voted against gay marriage. This is why gay marriage is now banned in California.

Hispanics also overwhelmingly voted for George W. Bush as governor of Texas. So it swings both ways.

The big issue with hispanics is their poorer economic status. Poorer people, in general, tend to vote Democrat (along with very rich people). The middle goes for Republicans.

These politicians do not understand demographics. To Democrats, demographics is just racial boxes. Hispanics are not a race, first of all. They are an ethnicity. They are the children from the Spanish colonies. In Texas, many joined with the Texians to fight for independence. Some died at the Alamo. With Hispanics, America will become MORE white and more religious.

The big issue with demographics now is the birth rate. The biggest problem with Democrats is abortion. Political values are transferred mostly from parent to child. They are aborting their future voters.

Look at it this way: the Democrats have no idea what is happening right now. They never believed they could lose in Massachusetts or New Jersey. They did believe in their ‘realignment’ theory.

If there was anything to Democrats faith in “demographics”, they would not be losing these special elections in New England or anywhere else. Virginia was supposed to be forever blue. What happened there?

It’s the words ‘springboard to power’ that bother me.

We want people in office who will see getting elected as taking on the responsibility of the office, and listening to the will of the people.

Those we don’t want see getting elected as a springboard to power, because they view it as having their own personal fiefdom where they are above the laws, and work only to keep themselves in that position.

I won't argue with you about people that are in the US illegally. My point was that much of the legal influx of folks of Hispanic heritage stems from changes in the immigration law about 20 years ago.

Many of the people here legally were fleeing the wars that beset their home countries.

Like any batch of “newcomers” they begin with little more than they shirts on their back and, unlike some native born Americans, will do any work it takes to get ahead.

These people also have to work to gain the citizenship that we take for granted. Their children speak English and hang out at the mall. They will be the first in their families to go to college.

So I still contend that the Democrats are trying to paint a picture that somehow all “Hispanics” will vote the Democratic way. Maybe when they are still climbing the economic ladder. Later when through the sweat of their brow they are more secure they might not be so receptive of a message that they be taxed to death for their efforts, that the church and strong families are trash and crime is not a priority.

I would really like to see a credible poll that sees where the “legal” immigrants stand in relation on what to do with the “illegals”. I suspect they might want them to go home and apply the way they did. JMHO

Was this actually published in Britain? Or just a web blog on their site?

I would never expect a leftist rag sheet like the Guardian to present a mostly factual, balanced view of the US right or Republicans.
