US prosecutors have released video footage of a sheriff's deputy striking a 15-year-old girl and throwing her onto a cell floor. The video is evidence in the case against Washington state Deputy Paul Schene, accused of using excessive force against the girl in November. The incident began after the girl was arrested in a car theft inquiry. Footage shows the deputy lunge at the girl after she kicks one of her shoes towards him at SeaTac City Hall. "We believe this case is beyond just police misconduct, it's criminal misconduct," King County Prosecutor Daniel Satterberg said. "This is clearly excessive force."

On the BBC? Don’t they have enough problems in their own country to report?

Clearly excessive. Way out of line.

Her shoe triggered him, but I’ll bet her mouth got him so mad he was looking for an excuse.

On the other hand, he was clearly unqualified for the job, or at least badly trained. Once she got under his skin he needed to either exit and cool off, or get a replacement. He got completely psychologically dominated.

It’s the brass that need to take responsibility for this farce, but their work of art, the idiot cop, is going to take the fall for them.

I guess not. Especially when you consider it is old news.

I watched the video and definitely think that the officer should be prosecuted and found guilty. She may have kicked a shoe, but she is only 15 yo, and in no way posed a physical threat to two males, who looked to be twice her weight!

This is a 15 yo minor we are talking about here.

Based on the officer’s reaction to a petite 15 year old girl, I would say there is probably other violent incidents in this officers life involving women. Perhaps during discovery, these could come to light. Normal men are not intimated by 87 lb females and have to respond with such overwhelming physical force.

Oh, and the young lady should do time for stealing the car as well.

I think the authorities had best check out this guy’s home life. She probably isn’t the only little girl he has beat up.

I’d have to agree with you. She did kick her shoe at the cop, likely she wasn’t respectful or cooperative, no doubt.

But that cop went a little too bezerk, first banging the kid into a cement wall, slamming her to the floor, hitting her with his first two times, than, what...he hadda lead her by the hair of her head?

A bit too much as I saw it.

No doubt. Serious anger issues here.

“A bit too much as I saw it.”

This happens when the cop knows there is a camera in the cell....

Imagine what he/they get away with when there are no cameras around.

What ever happened to “peace officers”?

The cop was way out of line. Way out.

It appears that the girl may have been told to remove her shoes. He apparently didn’t like the way she took them off.

Needs to be removed from the force and prosecuted for child abuse.

She’s going to have a nice taxpayer-funded trust rather soon.

I had a friend who was a juvenile probation officer and he was telling me about all the ways the teens would try and press his buttons. The difference being that he was a professional unlike this idiot and could control himself.

The video has been out almost since the incident. For those who are unaware, the cop was fired and charge with assault; yesterday the judge declared a mistrial when the jury hung 11-1 in favor of conviction. A couple of days ago the jury sent a note to the judge saying one of jurors was less than forthright and may not be impartial - the mother of a 15 year old girl. At the time I thought she was the holdout for conviction, and everybody else wanted to cop to skate - guess I blew that call. Anyway, the prosecutor is going to retry the case.
