I think mandatory military service would be good. It was very good for me even though it was only 4 years. And no job or task has EVER been harder than boot camp.
I wouldn’t be opposed to my 9 year old daughter serving some day even if it was mandatory.
I think something along the lines Robert Heinlein proposed in “Starship Troopers”

I actually would be opposed to my children being forced to participate in ANYTHING. But i would especially oppose my daughter being forced to join the military.
She is a girly girl. She’d do more harm than good in that sort of situation. Boys may be a different situation. But as a woman I could sit here and give you an endless list of why as a female i would make a terrible soldier.
