Dallas-Fort Worth donors tilt toward Hutchison
By WAYNE SLATER / The Dallas Morning News
AUSTIN In her bid to unseat Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison has built a financial beachhead in Dallas, taking in nearly 40 percent of her contributions from her hometown in the last half of 2009.
Hutchison raised more than $2.2 million from the city, according to her latest campaign finance report. And she tapped some big names in Big D Ross Perot and his son have given a combined $160,000. Real estate investor Harlan Crow has added $60,000. Also helping Hutchison: philanthropist Peter O'Donnell, airline entrepreneur Herb Kelleher and Dallas Cowboys legend Roger Staubach.......
....The money roughly reflects what could be a split in strength when Perry and Hutchison face off in the March 2 Republican primary. Perry, the incumbent who has been in charge of state government for nine years, led Hutchison almost 4-to-1 in Austin, where most of his support has come from lobbyists and interest groups with business before the state. And he has outraised her in Houston.
........Perry raised $7.1 million in the last six months of 2009, and Hutchison collected $6.1 million. As they enter the final stretch of the primary showdown, Hutchison has slightly more money in the bank.

Medina refuses support of GOP ticket, suggests third-party activity
Submitted by Pratt On Texas on Thu, 01/21/2010 - 10:52pm.
LUBBOCK Candidate for the Republican nomination for Texas governor Debra Medina, in a Thursday appearance on radio show Pratt on Texas, refused to commit to support the Republican nominee for Texas governor if she is not the Partys nominee. Medina hinted at there being other candidates on the November ballot she might support.
Pratt on Texas host Robert Pratt asked Ms. Medina, the former Wharton County chairwoman, "If you run through this election and are not the nominee of the Republican Party, will you wholeheartedly endorse and support the Partys nominee or is there some threat of some type of outside movement there?"
"I think its premature to be talking about that," replied Medina.
"So in other words, even though we do know that the nominee will be one of three people, Rick Perry, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, or yourself, youre not willing to go on the record saying that if youre not the nominee you would support the Partys ticket?," Pratt asked.
"Absolutely not," Medina said.

Medina has my vote ... regardless of the ticket/party she runs on.
Medina has been rising in the polls according to the last Rassmussen release I saw. She was up at 12% with about the same number undecided. So she has the capability of increasing her standings. I think she’s raised somewhere around $190,000 for the campaign but it does take tons of money to run in Texas. At the least she’ll most likely force the race into a runoff.
Here’s the Medina clip I saw about her fundraising:

The third candidate in the GOP race, activist Debra Medina, trailed far behind Hutchison and Perry. And most of the $191,000 that Medina raised came from outside Texas’ major cities. Of her total, only 17 percent came from Houston, 6 percent from Austin and 2 percent from Dallas.
Medina has been conducting a grass-roots campaign aimed at wooing populist, Tea Party-movement Republicans.
I like Medina...She needs to make her best case during the primary, but once it’s over, she needs to get behind the winning Republican candidate.
Texas does NOT need to split the conservative vote with a third party that does not have a chance to win, and more importantly, contribute to a conservative sounding Dem to win.
And does she pay you for your political advice?
I like Perry and think he will win, Medina will get some name recognition this time around and might be a force down the road.
Now I gotta be a paid consultant to offer my opinion on a conservative political website?
The demographics in Texas are changing, and in my opinion, we no longer have the luxury of taking certain statewide races for granted.
Splitting the conservative vote is not politically smart.
I would be much more excited by this if it were just Perry and Medina, because, even if she didn’t get the nomination, she would push Perry further to the right, and that would be glorious.
Let's see if she can organize.
Just wondering why Medina ‘must’ do anything, especially support those she finds politically distasteful.
The hold your nose to vote for a stinker philosophy doesnt cut it anymore.
Media ad:
Who is going to think more about Latino families? Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison or me, who has a Latino family? (Medinas cultural heritage is German and Bohemian.)
She told a colleague last month in an e-mail. Being married, however, to someone with a Mexican American heritage, I certainly embrace the culture. But before she explained that, she told my colleage, who had asked her whether she considers herself Latina: Id not consider myself anything other than a wife and mother, a nurse and a patriot. I believe we too often get into race when its immaterial.
No, Thanks, Mrs Medina.
She is also running Spanish ads. Hello Mrs.Medina! If they cannot speak English then they have no business voting IMO. When they learn English then let them vote. Assimilate. Learn English. Appreciate all America gives you.
So Im sure she is blowing a lot of hot air just like Obama did just to get elected. Running those ads and saying what she has, tells me the border issue is just a try to get votes for herself.
No, thanks, Ill stick with ol RINO Perry. Texas has remained in better shape than almost any if not all of the states in the union under Perry's watch. As someone said, 'he's the devil we know'.
The motly crew running for governor is laughable; a MUSLIM, a trecherous RINO woman* (Hutchison) and a woman with questionable loyalties
*Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchisons amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.

.
The stubborn Ross Perot holdouts brought us Bill Clinton.
The Dems would love to split the conservative vote.
...no Whammies...STOP!
Freepmail me or ping me from the original thread to get on/off the 2010 Texas Governor's Race ping list.
For starters look up Debra Medina's column 'Latinos and the GOP'
'Its a shame isnt it, that Republicans continue to ignore Hispanics especially here in Texas?' Debra Medina
'Ignore them', Mrs Medina? Since when? What more do you want? Or shouldn't we ask?
