My view of this may be a bit more nuanced than some.

First, this guy is a liberal hack masquerading as a “Christian leader”.

But, at least in principle, he may have a point. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, I suppose. He would also be entirely backward to envoke this as a reason for a government takeover ... which he will undoubtably do.

“The love of money is the root of all evil.” The whole shebang is obscene.

It is obscene that failed banking institutions are distributing bonuses and golden parachutes to the executives that led them down the path of failure. It is obscene that they accepted government money to bail them out, and it is obscene that the government offered money to bail them out. It is obscene that the government is attempting to use the opportunity created by previous obscenity to seize control of things they shouldn’t be controlling.

The quest for money and power creates sin from both sides.
