Police: Multiple fatals in central Va. shooting

APPOMATTOX, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police are reporting multiple fatals and injuries involving a lone gunman in central Virginia. State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says more than 100 law enforcement officials have surrounded the suspected gunman in a wooded area just outside of Appomattox. She could not say how many had been killed or injured.

Police say the violence began shortly after noon Tuesday when an injured man was found on a rural stretch of road.

Police say when officers responded, someone fired at them. A state police helicopter had to land with a ruptured fuel tank. The officers were not injured.

It is not known what prompted the shootings.

I am wondering if the gun grabbers have shifted their emphasis to these local events because too many questions are being raised about the more spectacular school, mall, and church shootings. Note that the shootings are occurring in areas that are probably very pro-gun. Then perhaps when they go for that big gun control legislation, these incidents will serve to provide ‘’cover’’ for the local bought-and-paid-for congressperson.

More people were killed in car accidents in one week than all of these gun deaths.
