Port au Prince (AFP) .- Hundreds of Haitians attended on Tuesday, between resignation and anger, the impressive helicopters landing of U.S. troops in the presidential palace, in an act considered by many a loss of sovereignty.
"It's an occupation. The palace is the country, represents our power, our face, our pride," Feodor Desanges criticism.
A week after the earthquake that devastated the Haitian capital, leaving between 100,000 and 200,000 dead, this was the first time that the Haitians were able to observe the troops sent by the U.S. in the downtown.
"I have not seen distributing food in the city center, where people urgently need food, water and medicines. This is more like an occupation", launches Wilson Guillaume, Haitian student of 25 years.

That didn’t take long.
Pull out.
Let them clean up their own mess.
Refund the US Taxpayers.
Yeah, well.. that sucker fell down, didn't it?
We SHOULD occupy and install a democratic government in that s—thole. Because their instability threatens our (for now) stability.
Idiot demon-possessed savages.
Glad we are being appreciated. How about we load up the troops, take back all of the handouts and let them to their fate? I’m sure there won’t be any rapes or massacres to follow. They have never been nor ever will be a viable country. You have to admire their moxie though. It’s like me looking in a mirror and thinking I look like Brad Pitt instead of the aged Jesse Ventura. BTW, we have trash dumps here in the US that are nicer than Haiti BEFORE the earthquake. STFU
They do have a point. We shouldn’t be landing our helicopters on the palace grounds. Sure, the palace probably needs guarding but we’re not the ones who should be doing it. Setting up a base nearby is one thing but inside the gates is clearing not proper.
OTOH, if they aren’t grateful for US relief, then fine, we’re outta there and they can dig their own mass graves.
Now, now, now!! Don’t these poor helpless souls know that this kind of talk will reflect poorly on our wonderful President? The U.S. media need to straighten these people out! < /sarcasm >
The last thing we should do in my opinion we’ll get stuck paying for them conservatives never used to believe in nation building.
LOL!
Who the h-ll would want the country, that is what is so darn crazy. It was a hell hole before this and will probably continue to be one. It makes me sick that they would criticize us after all the money and aid pouring in. Reminds me of a blog I read today saying: “Leave the children there so they have their culture...” ??? Good God, what culture?
Sounds like any inner city in this country. No matter how much you give its just not enough. This is the danger of giving to make dependent rather than self sufficient. There’s a big difference but PC and bruised self esteem disallows the later. So, we’ll continue down this road until there’s just no more to give and then what? Those who demanded dependence will be in a world of hurt w/ nothing but criminality to fall back on. To be clear the dependent will never rule over the self sufficient b/c the former have not moral courage or tenacity.
That was a dumbass move deploying troops on the palace grounds. In the state the country is in ATM, in the minds of many there it could come across as taking advantage of their situation.
“It’s an occupation. The palace is the country, represents our power, our face, our pride,”
And last time I looked the roof has caved in. Some Symbol...
Would have been better off staying a French colony
How many here think this already has a vaguely SOMALIAN feel to it....?
1. those in need are black people
2. who have a long history of poverty
3. who are believers of one of the world’s great religion, balanced by local voodoo, etc.
4. a terrible disaster occurs, followed by desperation
4. there’s a local expectation of an immediate solution
5. the US feels sympathy, and shows a willingness to help
5. Supplies do arrive in-country but distribution is impeded by marauding gangs
7. the US commits to military intervention
COMING TO A NEWS BROADCAST SOON:
8. Mission creep —trouble-makers must be Brought To Justice, etc.
9. Local view emerges that USA is an interloper & not doing enough
10. Local antipathy & armed opposition
11. Mayday, mayday...Super six four...Im going in...blackhawk down...
Which element enumerated above does not fit both for the Somalia of the past & the Haiti of today?
—> HAS ALWAYS BEEN THUS IN HAITI <—
Cops are not soldiers, and soldiers are not cops. Nor are soldiers social-workers; make no mistake —the social worker goal is about to be imposed on US military people, and this will be to their immense detriment.
The proper role of the military is to kill people and to break things.
Interchange just a few words, and Somalia becomes HAITI —HOW WILL THIS END?
No, they do not have a point. The palace grounds is probably the only viable landing zone for operations. I imagine they don’t have too many parks or green, open spaces.
You got it. All other parks and open spaces in the city center are occupied by refugees.
This is whining about nothing.
my numbering is wrong cuz I kept thinking of more Somalia/Haiti similarities.
OTHERS?
You’d have to be TOTALLY STUPID not to be able to look into the future on this one.
And come to think of POTUS........!!
WHERE is Cindy Sheehan????
I smell an issue for her here.....
Gates should have been air dropping supplies en mass 4 days ago.
