What is more troubling than Pat Roberston’s remarks?

Maybe Cotton Mather’s remarks?

Hmm, I was ready for the usual attack on Pat but this was a very thoughtful article. We want God to be the candy man, tossing daisies and to forget about His rules and His way of disciplining us when we need it. I know He does carry a paddle and will apply it.

What’s more troubling than his remarks?

Maybe that serious news organizations think it’s newsworthy when he makes remarks like that. It’s basically “dog bites man” at this point, if not “dog licks self”.

Can’t see the picture ... but Pat Robertson lost his mind years ago. He says Haiti made a pact with the Devil (the whole country??) but he should think more carefully about the deal he made when he defended China’s one child policy ... although he was careful to point out that he doesn’t actually SUPPORT forced abortion as a means of population control, by the way, in case you were wondering. He also criticized US “interference” in the matter.

Hopefully someone will produce the link to the entire broadcast.

He didn’t say the earthquake was retribution for a two hundred year old ritual. In a broadcast about all the aid that was being mobilized for Haiti, and conversations about people already there on the ground (because Robertson didn’t just discover Haiti after the quake) he made the comment that the country was born when its founding fathers dedicated it to Satan, and that the country had had a very tragic history in all the years since. He compared it to Dominican Republic which, while its had its share of problems, is a far happier and more prosperous place.

He isn’t really off the mark. Haiti is proud of that moment in their history, but much more to the point, it has been ruled by a murder cult for much of its two hundred years since then. If you understand the connection between prosperity and freedom and rule of law, you can’t expect happy things in a country that is ruled by a murder cult.

Just like, to save Eastern Europe, the back of the marxists had to be broken, if you ever hope to make something of Haiti you’ve got to bring them out of the darkness. To save Cuba the marxist murder cult there needs to be thrown out. To save Haiti another kind of corrupt murder cult needs to be thrown down.

but why, if you believe The Lord so upset at Haitians as to smite them thus and justly, why plead for helping them in the same message?

They should lock Robertson in a Room with Danny Glover and see if they can together think of more boneheaded remarks.

Paul says to the sorcerer on Cyprus Acts 13:

"You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that's right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery...Now the hand of the Lord is AGAINST YOU. You are going to be blind, and for a time you will be unable to see the light of the sun."

Paul clearly said God was against this man and he was struck blind. And don't forget Miriam, Korah, Dathan & Abiram, etc. in the Old Testament, not to mention the Canaanites.

I don't know if Robertson was right or not, but people who think God does not show his wrath are dead wrong.

I’m sorry the graphic didn’t come up, but you can click on the link and read the whole story if you like. To me, it’s an excellent piece. It has little to do with Pat Robertson; it’s about man’s judging and approving of himself (without God) to the point he doesn’t realize he is sinning to begin with.

If some lib reporter had mentioned this in passing as a bit of historical trivia they would all be patting themselves on the back for their in depth reporting!

I tell ya, if I wasn't already happily married, and Selwyn Duke was a single available man, and I was 25, er, 35 years younger, and so on and so on ...

I've yet to read one of his articles that didn't move me ... what a brilliant writer!

What is more troubling than Pat Roberston’s remarks?

Easy.

The fact that the Rene Preval, the President of Haiti, spent yesterday in a meeting with the island's chief voodoo priest to talk about the risk of all those bodies turning into zombies.

Yes.
(Either one is more troubling in itself.)

What is more troubling?

Perhaps the common perception that God will not judge a land for its sin.

Yes, that is far more troubling.

Chastisement from God can be minor to severe depending upon the seriousness of the offense and how long a people/nation has lingered in it. The Scriptures say that when man is unrepentant and stiffnecked God uses tough love and often turns man over to his own devices, lifts His protection and even turns man/nation over to Satan to reap the fruit of his ways and suffer for it. It is very much like our parents not liking us keeping company with trouble-makers, warning us then punishing us when we get in trouble. The recent disaster in Haiti could have some significance because of their past and present embracement of mixing Voodoo with their Christianity which is something God abhors as it violates the 1st Commandment. But our God is also great in compassion and mercy and will be there to help the Haitians to get through this and on their feet again. It is important for us Christians to reach out and help these people through prayer, generosity and sharing the truth with them. Hebrews 12 is a great chapter which describes the discipline of the Lord.
