To the Obama Administration, "temporarily" means 50 years or so. Another vote for the Democrats.

George W. Bush’s one big disappointment in office was not passing universal amnesty for illegal aliens.

If loving Americans are willing to take these children then more power to them.

But please don't insult our intelligence with the "temporarily" line.

Relief Plane to Bring 61 Haitian Orphans to Western Pennsylvania

Monday, January 18, 2010

PITTSBURGH — A flight taking supplies to earthquake-ravaged Haiti is supposed to return to Pittsburgh with about 60 of the orphans who have been cared for by two western Pennsylvania women who run an orphanage there.

Dan Laurent, a spokesman for the West Penn Allegheny Health System, confirmed that the plane filled with relief supplies from Brother's Brother Foundation left Pittsburgh International Airport about noon. Laurent says the plane is supposed to bring back 61 orphans cared for by Jamie and Ali McMutrie, who are from the Pittsburgh suburb of Ben Avon. They have lived in Port-au-Prince since 2007 and run an orphanage called BRESMA.

Laurent says he knows about the mission because the hospital has an emergency physician on board.

Now comes the fight over who gets to adopt them. Some Hollywood and politician stars need new accessories.

While we remain focused on family reunification in Haiti, authorizing the use of humanitarian parole for orphans who are eligible for adoption in the United States will allow them to receive the care they need here," she said.

The "humanitarian parole policy" will be applied on a case-by-case basis to children legally confirmed as orphans eligible for adoption in another country by the Haitian government and who are being adopted by U.S. citizens.

These children were already on their way to becoming American citizens through the adoption process. (Under US law, children adopted internationally by US citizens become US citizens automatically once the adoption is finalized and they land on US soil). These children were in the process and all their paperwork has been destroyed in the earthquake. This is hardly an illegal immigrant issue.

I don’t have any problem with children who have been documented before the earthquake to come here. But in the rush to help children, we should not be sending just anyone picked off the streets after the quake. Many parents are dead, but many families are just separated, and all efforts should be made to reuite them. Parents would never know if their children are in an anonymous mass grave, or living in another country.

I’ll post what I posted on another thread about this article -

...this State Dept/DHS decision is in response to a specific situation of which I have personal knowledge.

At the orphanage that Fox News has been highlighting for several days are 135 orphan kids, 120 of which have already been LEGALLY ADOPTED by American families. This is only one orphanage among many in Haiti; in fact, in total throughout the US there are over 250 families who are in various stages of the long and cumbersome Haitian adoption process.

Friends of mine are the adoptive parents of one of those kids in that orphanage, Maison des Enfants de Dieu (supporting agency is For His Glory out of TX - http://www.forhisgloryoutreach.org/). My friends most recently visited their son last month around Christmas time - imagine their horror when they first heard about the earthquake.

Thankfully all of the kids survived (a nanny caregiver did die of injuries sustained by having part of the building fall on her) but of course they are desperate to get him out of there and home to them as soon as possible, so they and the other adoptive families have been petitioning the State Dept to expedite things. Considering that the kids are currently living outside and have little food, water and medical supplies and are dealing with looters, I’d say that request is a valid one.

Some freepers said Obama would take advantage of the crisis to do this and they got some rather rude responses. I think some apologies are owed.
