No one does this sort of mission better then Marines. And the last time, in 1994, when the gangs in Cap Hatien tried to mess with the Marines they got a short sharp lesson in why that is a really, really stupid idea.
Hopefully this lesson has become part of island lore. "Do not mess with the Marines, they bad voodoo".
The military guy at the airport said how they were told that the Haitian police force would be in charge of security outside the airport. And then we wonder why the U.N. won’t go into some areas of town, and I think not any areas after dark.
Then the military guy said “The 82nd has been out delievery food, water and supplies and we have not encountered any problems security-wise”. (Hmmm - I wonder why that is?)
