Yeah, I sorta guessed that this might be the distinction, as quoted below...

White Voodoo or Arada, is the application of ritual that does no harm to third parties. Red Voodoo, or Petro, is the opposite. Let us only look to white Voodoo, the benefits of which are undisputed.
