Hours before President Barack Obama's appearance with the Democratic candidate in the Massachusetts Senate race, political handicapper Charlie Cook sent an unusual weekend update to his Cook Political Report subscribers saying that Scott Brown, the Republican, is now a slight favorite.

My real concern now is that Obama is going to rally the base- if he can do that this is going to be much closer..
He failed to save Corzine despite 3 visits to the Garden State, hopefully the same will happen in MA.

We are seeing the same thing. I interpret it to be that intrade is showing almost a dead heat, with a very slight edge to Brown (maybe not enough of an edge to keep the Democrats from stealing the election).
Just got a note from Charlie. Coakley should be up by ten, but bad candidate, terrible campaign manager, good news only pollster have combined to make this turn for Brown.
Internals: R, Brown +5 D, Brown +2 or 3. Trend to Brown.
Turnout dependent, but would rather be Brown than Coakley at this point.

The Democrats have to accuse Scott Brown of being a racist in order to panic and bring out the base. I am surprised they haven’t done that yet!
I have been making phone calls all day for Scott Brown and the reactionn is very positive 6-1 in favor of Brown. Maybe the Coakley supporters just let the phone go to voicemail?
I stopped making calll at around 430 pm, because some were complaining they were getting too many phone calls for Scott Brown! :) I guess that’s good, but I think I will stop calling for a while. Will see what the polls look like tomorrow.
