I’d never been in trouble with the law before and neither had Bryan. At 44, I’d never been beaten up before, until the Provincetown police smashed me face first into the side of a house, repeatedly kicking me, while not resisting arrest and handcuffed, one minute after first meeting them and doing exactly what they asked.
I tried to fight this travesty in Cape Cod court, known for rampant corruption. After 9 Judges, repeated cop lies under oath (making them criminals); witnesses changing testimony under pressure; we wound up with Judge Brian Merrick, a former lawyer for the police union, who presided over the one-sided trial...

Sometimes it takes a severe beating by the police and then afterwards a real clear demonstration that against the police and court system you are nothing to drive the point home that a police state - even one that promises to go after your enemies and to respect your rights - could just as easily turn against you.
